💊 And here we are again with our Ask Our Pharmacists series! Today, we’re tackling a common question about nasal sprays:
Q: I noticed my congestion has gotten worse after using my nasal spray for over a week. Why?
A: You may be experiencing what's known as rebound congestion, medically referred to as rhinitis medicamentosa. This is a side effect of overusing your nasal spray. Instead of helping, the spray has created a cycle of dependency.
The best course of action is to gradually stop using the spray. It may be uncomfortable for a few days, but your nasal passages will recover. In the meantime, try using saline sprays or consult your healthcare provider for alternative treatments.
