I had my first consultation/workout today and it was really great! I was so worried about starting over and my health with hypothyroidism. Being overweight and low self esteem I knew I wouldn’t feel comfortable at a huge gym with everyone staring at me and worrying if I would fit in. I immediately felt at peace right when I walked in At Utopia! Maurice introduced himself and made me feel comfortable and excited to be there. Wow! His knowledge is incredible and I learned so much from him. My workout was great! I met a few members and they were all so welcoming. I’m excited for my next workout. At Utopia, we deliver 40-60 minutes per week of safe and effective resistance training on our Nautilus Circuit machines. A new study published just this month aimed to systematically review and meta-analyze the relationship between resistance training and all-cause, cardiovascular disease, and cancer mortality.

A total of 10 studies were included in the meta-analyses. Compared with undertaking no resistance training, undertaking any amount of resistance training reduced the risk of all-cause mortality by 15%, cardiovascular disease mortality by 19%, and cancer mortality by 14%. A dose-response meta-analysis of 4 studies suggested a nonlinear relationship between resistance training and the risk of all-cause mortality. A maximum risk reduction of 27% was observed at around 60 minutes per week of resistance training. Mortality risk reductions diminished at higher volumes.

A workout session at Utopia consists of 8 to 12 Nautilus Circuit machines. You will typically work from your largest muscle groups to progressively smaller ones. It is very common to start your workout on the leg press as Mary is demonstrating below. During your first workouts, we will determine the best settings for your backrest and seat carriage and those will be marked on your workout card. We will determine a weight where you can do between 8 and 12 reps max. Note Mary's tempo as she performs her leg press: she presses out for 4 seconds as she lifts the weight stack (concentric part of the lift), pauses briefly, and then lowers the weight in a controlled fashion for 4 seconds (eccentric part of the lift), pauses briefly and then repeats. By selecting a weight that you can perform at least 8 reps and not more than 12, you will be lifting a moderately heavy weight. The first few reps will be relatively easy and allow for your muscles to warm up and stretch through their full range of motion. The final repetitions are the key! Your intensity increases while maintaining perfect form until the weight no longer moves for you. This point is called momentary muscle failure and is what drives adaptation and stimulates muscle growth during your following rest days. This is the rep you got in your car and drove to the studio for! Repeat this intensity with perfect form on the rest of our Nautilus machines and in 20 minutes you will be back in your car driving home from a brief, intense, safe, and wonderfully effective workout! The objective of this study in the British Journal of Sports Medicine was to quantify the associations between muscle-strengthening activities and the risk of non-communicable diseases and mortality in adults independent of aerobic activities.

Our Fitness Coach plays an important role in creating an incredible environment for our members to get results. This opportunity will provide you with coaching and training experience and help you see what the health and wellness world is all about. Certifications are not required but willingness to learn is a must.

For this current position, candidates must be able to open two days a week at 5am. Part time hours range from 15 to 25hours a week. Full time is 30 to 35hours. Weekend availability means the ability to work two to three Saturdays a month from 7am to 3pm.
Duties & Responsibilities:

· Report directly to the Studio Director

· Meet daily sales goals

· Up sell products and services

· Train members in workouts and guide them towards their goal

· Help provide a fun, safe, motivating member experience

· Check in each member on their progress, concerns and testimonials

· Provide prospects with information on how we achieve lasting results

· Maintain a clean facility

· Review workout cards to ensure proper programming
