There’s so many interesting thoughts out there on self-care… What are yours?

I have talked to people who really struggle to care for themselves. They are suffering from major mental health issues and getting up and out of bed and doing the basic things each day is a true feat. However, to others talk of self care seems self indulgent. Like there is too much focus on the self or ego and not enough on others. They hear self care and think selfish.

Where do you land on this? How do you care for yourself? Do you believe there’s a baseline of self-care that we all need to do to be able to care for ourselves and others?

I’ll be exploring this topic every day this week to try to talk about what we need and how best to care for ourselves.

I was listening to a story today and realize how often people shy away from assertive communication when they it will be uncomfortable or awkward. Do you do this? Are you more interested in pleasing the other people or making sure they’ll feel OK with your choices? How does caring too much what others think get in our way?

Andrea Peterson has written a wonderful article in about new Book . I can’t wait to read the book! The article provides so many insights about how to have ongoing conversations with our kids about drugs and alcohol, how to share real data so we don’t come across as argumentative, and how to debunk myths widely spread about when and how to introduce and talk to your kids about substance use. I’m so grateful for these writers for the wisdom they share with parents trying to raise healthy kids/teens in this difficult time!
These are the types of discussions happening in my Moms Groups. If you were not able to join this spring, don’t worry... there are more groups to come!

The pandemic has been hard on us all. I continue to have Moms reach out to me telling me how much they are struggling with parenting especially those who have teenagers. They are scrambling to help their adolescents with anxiety, depression, social problems, giving up, academic decline, isolation and loneliness while trying to be supportive, understanding, enforce limits and manage their own range of emotions.

I’ve created two Telehealth groups to be a source of community, information and support to Moms trying to help their teens during this unprecedented time. There is a Group for Moms of Teen Girls and a Group for Moms of Teen Boys. Both groups start the 1st week of April from 8:30-9:30am and meet weekly for 8 weeks. I will schedule a 15 minute consult with anyone interested in the groups. The is a limit of 8 women per group.

Moms of Teen Girls starts Wednesday 4/7 at 8:30am

Moms of Teen Boys starts Monday 4/5 at 8:30am

International Women’s Day 2021

We are all stronger than we imagine ourselves to be. What have you accomplished in the last year that you would have thought impossible just one year ago?

Remember that about yourself. Remember that you are strong, worthy, capable & able to cope with the hurdles that come your way.

If you can do today, what you didn’t imagine possible one year ago. What are the other things you could do? Are you limiting yourself simply out of limiting beliefs?

You are worthy no matter what you do, but gently challenging our fears, and the things we believe we cannot even try is an important exercise in self growth.

Surround yourself with women who build you up, examine your limiting beliefs, and do things each and every day to make you feel loved, whole and at peace so that you can then share that love with the other people who inhabit this planet. Celebrate today all that it means to be a strong, courageous woman!

There I go again... talking with my hands! I was so grateful to be on today discussing how to cope with and anxiety! A special thank you to who asked me a question posed to her from a Mom whose child was traumatized by losing power and the events of last week. I love being able to share insights that could help that Mom and other families. I discussed safety plans and the 4 types of coping that can help us and our kids!

What last week taught me is that we can come together, be there for each other and grow closer even when the going gets rough! And if we get overwhelmed by fear there are ways we can plan for next time and calm ourselves down in the moment.

To my Texas friends, I hope you are all safe with power and water returning! I know that there has been a lot of stress and anxiety around damage from bursting pipes, lack of power, lack of food, and lack of water. We were able to keep power, but as family members lost power and water, we had a host of people at our house. We were happy to have them, but there is always the stress of worrying if you have enough food for everybody, enough water, and enough beds and blankets to keep all your love ones warm and safe.

This has been a very stressful, uncertain week, and on Monday I’ll be discussing how to mentally get back on track. Tune into at 10amCST on to with and .
