Peace family! Midwives in Texas (that includes ME) need a HUGE favor from you!

🚨 🚨 🚨 A bill in Texas (HB 4553) could take away our right to community-based midwifery. It’s scheduled for hearing on MONDAY 4/28 and we need folks to call/email TODAY.

It would overregulate midwives and force them to follow hospital rules that don’t honor holistic, cultural, or out-of-hospital birth. It’s being pushed as “safety,” but it’s really control.

Here’s how to help (takes 2 min):
1. Call: 512-463-0802
OR
2. Email: gary.vandeaver@house.texas.gov

If you’ve ever been supported by a midwife or doula—you know how important this is. Thank you so much for taking action!

Thank you Beloved,
Auntie Eve

Subject: Oppose HB 4553 – Protect Midwifery and Family Choice in Texas

Dear Chairman VanDeaver and Members of the Public Health Committee,

I am writing to strongly oppose HB 4553, scheduled for hearing on Monday, April 28. I support the midwives of Texas and the families who rely on them.

This bill, while framed as a data and safety effort, contains harmful and confusing language that would:
• Overregulate a profession already held to high standards
• Duplicate existing reporting
• Force midwives to comply with medical standards that do not align with their model of care
• Threaten privacy and undermine informed choice in birth

Texas needs more access to culturally competent, holistic birth care—not policies that push midwives out of practice.

I urge you to oppose HB 4553 and instead support solutions that center safety, dignity, and choice for all Texas families.

Sincerely,

This work has changed me.
Being a Doula isn’t just something I do … it’s part of who I am.
Every birth I witness, every hand I hold, every breath I remind a mama to take… it shapes me too.

I’ve walked into birth rooms carrying my own story: grief, healing, questions, prayers…and left those rooms reminded that birth is where we meet God, over and over again.

To the families who’ve trusted me with your most sacred moments: thank you.

To the Doulas out here giving their all, holding space in tired bodies with full hearts: I see you.
And to the me who started this work after surviving so much: you were right to believe it would lead to something holy.

Happy World Doula Week.
This path is not easy, but it is blessed.

And now, as a student midwife supporting births at the birth center, I’m walking even deeper into the calling. Still learning, still holding space, still in awe.

They WILL not erase us. We are here, we exist and this nation was built on the backs of enslaved people. The biggest contributions to this nation came from Black folks. Black history month is every month, otherwise we are taking all our s**t back and see how they function then.

✨ Blessed and grateful to share that I’ve been awarded a grant from the Birth Future Foundation and Baby Yams as I step deeper into my calling as a student midwife! 🎉🌿

As a doula and now a student midwife, my soul’s work is to help shift the story for Black women and families—to bring peace, love, and empowerment back to the birthing process. It’s time to let go of the fear-based narratives around birth, to challenge the idea that pregnancy is a medical crisis, and to rewrite the story of birth with strength, respect, and joy. 🌸

For us, birth is sacred. It’s not just about bringing new life into the world, but about nurturing the health, strength, and spirit of our community. Addressing the crisis of Black maternal mortality is part of this journey, and I’m here to bring awareness, compassion, and positive change.

Thank you to everyone walking this path with me. I feel your love and support, and I’m here to give it right back. 💖 Here’s to a future where every Black birth is surrounded by peace, power, and healing energy. ✨

Stay connected with me as I continue this path to midwifery, bringing spirit, resilience, and passion into every step. 🕊️
