Intro to my book "small things" let me know what you think.
It was my first day on the job at Apple, coincidentally the launch of the iPhone 6. That day, I sold so many phones that when I went home, I couldn't sleep. The excitement, the rush—it was overwhelming. I knew I’d be doing the same thing the next day and for nearly six months after, as we sold thousands of iPhones daily.
This experience sparked a realization in me: one day, I would leave to start a company, something that would engage people through smartphones. I had no idea what it would be or how I’d achieve it, but I knew I wanted to create something meaningful through technology, something that provided real solutions for users.
For the next four and a half years, I couldn’t stop thinking about how to make this a reality. One early idea was a video platform, like Zoom, where people could get personal tech assistance. But at the time, investors told me no one would use video as a communication tool—this was before the pandemic changed everything.
Despite the doubts, a month before my daughter was born, I made a life-altering decision. I quit my job to pursue this dream of creating something valuable with technology. I’ll never forget the call I received while at work in the Apple Store in Dallas, Texas—my now exwife was headed to the hospital, and my daughter was about to be born. As I left the store that day, I knew it was the last time I’d ever return.
What followed has been an eight-year journey of highs and lows—successes, failures, new friendships, broken relationships, loss, gain, intellectual property battles, and countless lessons learned.
This book is for my children, their children, and future generations. My hope is that my story will inspire them to be creators, innovators, and problem solvers, not just consumers.
Because if there’s one thing I’ve learned on this path, it’s that the limits we set in our minds are small compared to the boundless potential the universe has in store for us. We just need to trust in it.
