Delivering Hope International

Delivering Hope International Orphan Prevention is Orphan Care. We improve maternal, newborn and child health and promote family preservation and the prevention of orphans.

We, the founders of Delivering Hope International, have personally witnessed the devastating implications of the absent, inadequate and often neglectful and abusive healthcare provided to millions of mothers and children throughout our world. Being adoptive parents, several of our adopted children were orphaned as a result of maternal death, while others have witnessed the heartbreaking, unnecessary death of younger siblings. To us, this is unacceptable, and is the motivation for our work. We desire to not only decrease maternal and child mortality, and preserve families, but to also show love and compassion to laboring women in the developing world, women who are overwhelmingly treated with a lack of respect and dignity. Delivering Hope is the first organization to introduce the use of doulas in order to help solve many of the problems surrounding birth, maternity and newborn care. Doulas are a highly effective, low cost way to improve maternal health, decrease maternal and child mortality, and provide women with dignified, kind, compassionate care. We are currently focusing our work in Ethiopia, in partnership with Living Hope Maternity Home in Ethiopia and YWAM Adoption Ministry in a rural village 5 hours outside of Addis Ababa. Ultimately, our love for those suffering in our world is rooted in our love of Jesus, the source of true, unwavering hope. Romans 15:13 “May the God of hope fill you with all joy and peace as you trust in him, so that you may overflow with hope by the power of the Holy Spirit.”

Our Story

Every day 830 women die from pregnancy or childbirth related complications. And 99% of these maternal deaths occur in the delivering world, largely due to preventable causes. DHI exists to decrease maternal and child mortality, preserve families, prevent orphan-hood, and provide love and compassion to pregnant and laboring women in the developing world, women who are overwhelmingly treated with a lack of respect and dignity. Delivering Hope is the first organization to introduce the use of doulas and childbirth educators in order to help solve many of the problems surrounding birth, maternity and newborn care. Our model and curriculum provides are a highly effective, low cost way to improve maternal health, decrease maternal and child mortality, and provide women with dignified, kind, compassionate care.

We currently provide an annual grant to Brook Hill Development Organization in Ethiopia that provides them with the resources to implement the DHI model and curriculum. We have also partnered with maternal care organizations and ministries in other developing nations as well. We do not send out teams or own and operate programs, rather we equip nationals on the ground to respond to the maternal health needs in their community through providing our model, curriculum, the training of doulas, and grants.
