A new clinical trial has been announced that is comparing BCG treatment for non-muscle invasive bladder cancer with Gemcitabine and Docetaxel (GEM/DOC). There are multiple centers participating all over the country so that many patients should benefit. This trial will especially be of interest to those patients who have been waiting for treatment due to the intermittent shortages of BCG.

The American Bladder Cancer Society is excited to share news of our scholarship donation to Oregon Health Science University Dept. of Urology. This scholarship will provide an opportunity for a disadvantaged medical student to do an "Away Rotation" in OHSU's urology department where he/she will be exposed to the best in urology.

OREGON HEALTH SCIENCES UNIVERSITY
DEPARTMENT OF UROLOOGY
Visiting medical student program
The visiting medical student program is intended for fourth-year students considering a career in Urology. Students function in a sub-intern role with house staff and faculty on the urology service and participate in all educational activities of the OHSU urology program.
Diversity and Inclusion
The OHSU Department of Urology is committed to providing the finest urologic training available and producing urologists with expertise in all aspects of medical and surgical care.
We are committed to a training environment inclusive of all cultures, languages, socioeconomic backgrounds, racial and ethnic backgrounds, disabilities, religions, gender identities and expressions, sexual orientations, medical training (osteopathic and allopathic) and other areas in a manner that promotes diversity in our future urologic leaders.
We provide mentorship and support to our residents as well as opportunities to work with diverse patient populations. We are developing training and education surrounding diversity/equity/inclusion and healthcare disparities to promote these values within the department. Visit the Center for Diversity and Inclusion to learn more.
We are pleased to announce the American Bladder Cancer Society Medical Student Scholarship. This fund will provide an annual stipend of $3000 to underrepresented minority students who do visiting rotations in urology at OHSU. We thank the American Bladder Cancer Society for their generous donation and commitment to our support for diversity, equity and inclusion in the field of urology.

Sometimes holidays are hard. The year I was diagnosed with T2 bladder cancer I was in the middle of chemo during Thanksgiving. Feeling sick and scared I remember sitting down with a sheet of paper to make a list of my blessings. The first two were easy the love and support of family and friends, talented medical practitioners and the list grew and grew. Even during dark times the good in our lives can give light and hope. The ABLCS is greatful for all of you and wishes each and every one of you a happy and hope filled Thanksgiving.

Happy New Year to our ABLCS family!
As we stand on the brink of welcoming a new year it is natural to look back as we also look forward. Looking back I wish to thank all the volunteers who make it all work and the moderators who run our forum 24/7/365. The generosity of people who donated and the people who made us their birthday fundraiser on Facebook you make it all possible. As a completely volunteer organization the ABLCS is truly a labor of love. Looking forward I do so with hope. Hope of a cure, of lives saved by early diagnose, of us reaching those in need and giving support. Wishing you all the best in the new year, Cynthia Kinsella President ABLCS

What an amazing place members of our board were invited for a visit last year. Thier bladder cancer program and staff left us beyond impressed. This should be an interesting watch.

This is Building 10 at the National Institutes of Health. Starting tonight on the Discovery Channel, a documentary called First in Human will give viewers an inside look at the journey of clinical research, featuring physician-scientists from NCI and their patients. 9pm ET.

This would great to bad there are not more of them. Hopefully this will be the wave of the future in areas big enough to make it feasible.

Some hospitals and oncology practices are setting up urgent care sites tailored to the needs of cancer patients, to help keep them out of the emergency room when complications or side effects arise.
