I imagine Ida Rolf, pioneer in the field of ‘fasciae medicine’, suspected this sort of thing 70 years ago. I am happy the info is reaching the mainstream.

Why is there so much fascination surrounding the potential of fascia from both researchers and body practitioners?

A recent article published by the Washington Post suggests this body tissue may hold health clues for cancer and other conditions related to gastrointestinal distress. Get the full story here: http://bit.ly/2H3ClL7

Good info!

You are not just thinking with your brain.

“Pain is an output of the Brain, not an input. The Brain has numerous outputs to protect, defend and help us with daily life (immune function, sympathetic/parasympathetic system, motor, endocrine, language, emotions, cognition, respiration, inflammation and pain).

It takes an enormous amount of energy to run multiple systems. A typical patient with chronic pain may have unusual cortisol levels, muscled tightness, a label sympathetic nervous system, an unbalanced immune system and an overproduction of inflammation. ‘Control’ has been the treatment philosophy for years...pain control, motor, control, control of emotions...etc. Brains do not construct by control, rather they construct by freedom, creativity, and curiosity. Ultimately, if construction can occur by freedom and choice, much of it is subconscious, which is critical for brain health.”

Dr. Lorimer Moseley/David Butler
Explain Pain, Noigroup Publications, 2003

I think this explains why ‘right brain’ activities have been proven to help with healing. So, get out some paint or some crayons and make some art, take some abdominal breaths, and tune into you inner experience so you can give your brain a chance to express its love of freedom, choice, and curiosity.

Great tidbit!

When faced with a predator or sudden danger, the heart rate goes up, breathing becomes more rapid, and fuel in the form of glucose is pumped throughout the body to prepare an animal to fight or flee.

We’ve all been hurt. What’s troubling is we recycle this pain into many places in our lives.

We let our past trauma make decisions in our present lives.

There are no such things as organic and original thoughts. Every thought in your mind was placed there by someone else.

You have a right- and obligation- to examine any thoughts that occur to you that feel out of alignment with who you are now- and who you want to be.

“I’m not good enough. I’m not worthy.”

WHO told you that? WHERE did that come from? WHEN did it happen? WHY do I believe that? And WHAT can I do to stop telling myself such a damaging lie.

Remove the ‘period’ behind these negative statements and replace them with a ‘question mark.’

Then work to reject them.

“I don’t receive that.”

Say it out loud. It is NOT your truth.

This is some of the most important work you can do. It’s the hardest- but it’s worth it.

You’re not just doing it for you- it’s for your family, for your community, for the world.

Changing that inner narrative will prevent these damaging thoughts from being passed on to future generations- we want a purpose filled, empowered, prosperous legacy.

And it’s a reality that’s attainable. You deserve it. You ARE worthy. Do the work.

This is great! Even if you don’t have PTSD, I recommend doing this as a way to process stress. Things that trigger us in the present often have roots in the past.

Moving Meditations: Using a Daily Walk to Help Heal PTSD

One form of moving meditations utilize walking in combination with neurological stimulation of the parasympathetic nervous system-your ability to relax.

I practice this and suggest it to my patients. Start a daily walk, even if it is for 5 minutes.

Throughout the walk, occasionally try these tips:

1. Tickle the roof/palate of your mouth with your tongue. This will stimulate your cranial nerves and increase parasympathetic activity = Relaxation

2. Contract the abdominals and curl the toes downward: this will initiate your system to “seek out” old trauma lying beneath the surface. The reason: when you go into fight or flight mode you contract your abdominal muscles and clench your toes downward to run from the problem or solve them. As you contract these two things, you stimulate your nervous system to uncover the memories or trauma that bring you into fight or flight.

3. Breathe through your stomach and diaphragm. This will increase your parasympathetic relaxation system. You begin to teach your nervous system to relax and not REACT even when old trauma rises to the surface. As bad stress comes to you, you are training your body to release good chemicals.
You will be surprised what emotions and old memories surface...and you won’t fear them, but learn to process them out! Give it a try and let me know how it goes.
