IMPORTANT NOTICE
"For everything there is a season, and a time for every matter under heaven." - Ecclesiastes 3:1
It's with mixed emotions - but knowing it is a path set by God - that we share that Samaritan Health Center's Board of Directors has decided the clinic will be ending its 16 wonderful years of serving Danbury's at-risk community.
Our last day of ministry will be August 13, 2024.
SHC is closing because of the positive changes brought about by the new Connecticut State rules regarding Husky insurance. These regulations now ensure that all children up to 15 years old, regardless of their immigration status, will have access to health insurance. Additionally, the State of CT has a plan to expand the age limit to 19 years old, possibly next year.
This significant development means that the primary need for the Samaritan Health Center is being covered through these expanded services.
Since our founding in 2008, Samaritan’s mission has been to provide quality pediatric care to children without insurance, ensuring that every child has access to the healthcare they deserve. Over the years, SHC – a Jericho ministry partner - has been privileged to care for approximately 4,600 children and their families, providing not just medical services, but also guidance, support, compassion and hope.
“While we are saddened to end this chapter, we are heartened by the progress made in healthcare accessibility,” said Dr. Donald Sampson, SHC’s Clinical Director. “We are confident that this change will greatly benefit our patients and our community, ensuring that no child is left without the medical care they need.”
“We wish to express the deepest gratitude for the support we have received throughout the years, and for what we’ve accomplished together,” said Dr. Patrick Broderick, Chairman of SHC’s Board of Directors, and retired Head of Danbury Hospital’s Emergency Department. “The community’s unwavering commitment and generosity have been the backbone of our operations, allowing us to fulfill our mission and touch so many lives.”
We have reached out to our patients by mail with notice of the closure, along with instructions on how to enroll in Husky insurance and a list of local practices that accept Husky. SHC staff will continue to work with patients relative to their medical records and will remain available to them by phone after August 13 to help them through this transition.
