Let’s bust a few orthopedic myths 👇

1️⃣ Myth: Only athletes get orthopedic injuries.
Fact: Anyone can be affected — from slips and falls to everyday strain.

2️⃣ Myth: Rest is always the best treatment for joint pain.
Fact: Gentle movement and physical therapy often speed recovery and improve long-term function.

3️⃣ Myth: Cracking your knuckles causes arthritis.
Fact: No evidence supports this — though it can irritate surrounding tissue.

At OrthoConnecticut, we’re here to keep you moving with the right facts (and the right care).

It’s Folic Acid Awareness Week (September 14–20) — a great time to spotlight the importance of this essential B vitamin for healthy recovery and wellness.

Folic acid plays a key role in:

Cell repair — essential for tissue healing

Immune support — especially important as we age

Heart health — by helping regulate homocysteine

Bone strength — supporting overall longevity and mobility

At OrthoConnecticut, we recognize that proper nutrition is part of the healing process, whether that's promoting recovery from injury or maintaining everyday vitality.

This week, we encourage you to check your folic acid intake, through a balanced diet rich in leafy greens, legumes, fortified grains, and supplements if needed.

Healthy inside helps you heal outside.

We’ve all been there, rushing to get out the door, juggling coffee, keys, and maybe even a grocery bag or two… and then it happens. A twisted ankle on the front step. A slip while speed walking to the car. Or the classic stubbed toe from sprinting around the house.

At OrthoCare Express, we know life doesn’t slow down, but accidents happen when you do. That’s why our same day orthopedic care is here to help you get back on your feet quickly (and maybe with a reminder to slow down just a little).

Because while we love seeing you, we’d rather it not be because of a coffee spill cartwheel combo.

Emergency care available in New Milford, Sharon, Danbury, Southbury, and Ridgefield.

Outstanding Employee of the Month: August

Congratulations to Leidy Villalona from our Danbury office for being selected as OrthoConnecticut’s Outstanding Employee for August!

Leidy is truly a jack of all trades and an essential member of the Danbury team. While her primary role is as a Medical Assistant, she consistently goes above and beyond—stepping in at the front desk when needed, assisting secretarial staff during busy times, managing the flow and organization of the floor to keep operations running smoothly, and even supporting physicians with injections and other clinical tasks.

Her flexibility, teamwork, and positive attitude make her an invaluable asset. No matter the challenge, Leidy shows up with a strong work ethic and a willingness to help wherever she’s needed.

Fun Fact: Leidy was recently promoted to Lead Medical Assistant for the Danbury office—a well-deserved recognition of her leadership, reliability, and the trust she’s earned from both colleagues and providers.

Thank you, Leidy, for all you do to keep our team and patients supported each day!

Is Your Child’s Backpack Too Heavy?

Back pain isn’t just an adult problem. Heavy backpacks can cause back, neck, and shoulder pain in kids too. According to the American Academy of Pediatrics, a child’s backpack should weigh no more than 5 to 10 percent of their body weight, yet many carry far more.

Help protect your student this school year with these tips from the National Safety Council:

✔️ Choose an ergonomic backpack with padded straps, multiple compartments, and a snug fit
✔️ Always use both straps and adjust for a close fit to the back
✔️ Pack only the essentials, and load heaviest items closest to the back
✔️ Be cautious with rolling backpacks as they can create new tripping hazards

Let’s lighten the load for a healthier school year.
