February is Black History Month! This month, we want to highlight the achievements of Black leaders in mental health research and social progress. We must also hold space for the unique challenges the Black community faces when navigating mental health struggles.

According to Mental Health America, over 16% of Black and African Americans reported experiencing mental illness struggles in the past year. Historical adversity presents intersections that can create barriers to high-quality care for Black families. As mental health professionals, it is our duty to continue to establish resources to meet the needs of all underserved communities.

Over the next month, we will be sharing news and updates from Black leaders in the mental health care space. We hope to lift up Black voices and inspire you to take action to make a difference - whether that's working to proliferate cultural competency in your community, or finding the strength to get help for you or a loved one!
