Getting your flu shot is still an important step to take for your health. The CDC estimates that influenza (flu) kills 12,000 to 56,000 people in the United States each year. The single best way to avoid getting sick with seasonal flu and spreading the virus to others is to get the annual vaccine. We are offering flu vaccination clinics at many of our practices: https://www.northshorephysicians.org/flu-clinics

We are getting a lot of calls about the COVID-19 vaccines. We have created a page on our site which we will keep up-to-date with information. We ask that you refer to that page for the most accurate information.

There are some key things to know about the vaccines:

---You will be notified directly when you are eligible for the vaccine (via Patient Gateway, email, text or phone)
--Please do not call your doctor's office with questions about vaccine availability and appointments.
--We will begin giving vaccines to patients who are age 75 and older beginning February 1.
--We do not know when the state will enable us to begin offering the vaccine to anyone other than those who are 75 and older.
--The current vaccine supply is very limited. We receive vaccines from the Commonwealth of Massachusetts each week.
--We will continue to provide updated information to you about all of your vaccination options through Patient Gateway and on our website. Please go here for the most current information:

North Shore Physicians Group offers internal medicine doctors, family medicine specialists and many other specialists, to families north of Boston.

COVID-19 vaccine: What you need to know

As your care providers, your health is our top priority. We know that there are many questions about the COVID-19 vaccine. We have teams of experts working to make sure we can quickly vaccinate our patients when the vaccine becomes available to the general public.

Who can get the vaccine?

The availability of the vaccine is being coordinated by the state of Massachusetts through the Department of Public Health. Right now, the vaccine is only available to health care workers, emergency workers and patients in nursing homes.

When will I be able to get the vaccine?

- We are following the Massachusetts state guidance and will offer the vaccine to all of our patients when they are eligible.

- Within the state guidance, patients who have a high risk of getting severe illness from COVID-19 infection will get their vaccine first.

- We expect to offer vaccines to the first groups of highest risk patients (patients 75 years of age or more and patients with two or more significant chronic illnesses) starting in February.

- Members of the public without medical conditions will likely be able to get the vaccine in April.

Where will I be able to get the vaccine?

- We will offer the vaccinations to all of our eligible patients in locations that are easily accessible, including some of our medical offices.

- The vaccine may also be available from local pharmacies, local public health clinics or state vaccination sites. We will continually update our patients about all their vaccination options through Patient Gateway and on our website.

How will I know when I can get the vaccine?

- We will communicate with you regularly. We will send you a message when we have details about the process of scheduling an appointment.

- You can also find updated information and the answers to frequently asked questions on our website so check back often.

- You can find more information about the vaccine at mass.gov.

Remember, while the vaccine is a major step in fighting COVID-19, it is more important than ever to continue to wear a mask, socially distance and wash your hands.

At NSPG we are hard at work to address your concerns about Coronavirus. In the days and weeks ahead we will be updating our social media feed to reflect how we are managing the situation. We are screening all of our patients for travel history as well as for cough and fever. We are taking steps to minimize any exposure for patients such as disinfecting patient and staff areas regularly and removing electronic devices in the offices that we typically use as part of our registration or examination processes. We will be providing more advice and consultation by telephone advice and offer other options for care that will keep everyone safe. We vow to keep our community updated as the situation evolves.

To our patients, their families, and everyone in the NSPG community: this is the first of many posts we will make as we address your concerns about the Coronavirus outbreak. At our practices we are taking important steps and precautions in response to this evolving situation. First and foremost, we are screening all of our patients regarding their recent travel history, and we are similarly screening all patients for cough, sore throat, fever or shortness of breath. We are removing electronic devices in the offices that patients use, and disinfecting patient areas regularly. We will be moving towards more telephonic advice and other options for care that will keep everyone safe.

In addition, North Shore Medical Center has many measures in place. Read about those here:
