The deadline for applications is August 20th. Be sure to submit your app prior to that day.

The Danville Area Training Center (DATC) is opening the application process for Rescue Academy #8. By the end of the academy, students will obtain certifications in Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation, Emergency Vehicle Operations Class, Traffic Incident Management Systems, Mass Casualty I&II, Vehicle Rescue Awareness, and Emergency Medical Technician. Afterwards, graduates will be able to work or volunteer at any EMS agency in the Commonwealth of Virginia with completed certifications. Classes are scheduled for Tuesday and Thursday evenings. Times are 6:00pm to 9:00pm.
The next Rescue Academy will begin in late September. A tuition of $700, which includes the EMT book, uniform, online EMS software, CPR, and drug screening will be due by the fifth class.

Each year an instructor that teaches at the DATC is honored with the Herbert P. House Award for Excellence in EMS Education. This person can teach Office of EMS classes, AHA classes, EVOC, Vehicle Rescue, TIMS, MCI, and/or any other class at or through the DATC. The person does not have to be a DLSC/DATC member. The teaching and instruction is for the fiscal year ending June 2025. The person can be a previous recipient of the award.
The 2024 - 25 Herbert P. House Award for Excellence in EMS Education was presented to David Beach. David taught 38 American Heart Association classes to a total of 269 students. David is a dedicated, knowledgeable, and passionate educator. He is a true asset to the DATC and a deserving recipient of the award. Congratulations David!!!

Once this class is completed and you have passed your NREMT, you can walk across the street and work at the Danville Life Saving and First Aid Crew, Inc.! The program will start on September 15th. The ten weeks will end on November 21st. During the Academy you will complete your EMT, Emergency Vehicle Operations (EVOC), Vehicle Rescue Awareness, Mass Casualty I&II, CPR, and Traffic Incident Management (TIMS).

The Danville Area Training Center is an American Heart Association - CPR & First Aid Authorized Training Center. We are located beside the Danville Life Saving Crew and across from GW High School. We teach the following AHA disciplines: Basic Life Support (BLS) for Healthcare Providers (Initial / Renewal), Heartsaver First Aid CPR AED (Adult, Children, Infant), Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support (Initial / Renewal), and Pediatric Advanced Life Support. We offer regular classes that can be attended by individuals. Groups and businesses can schedule classes that fit your time schedule.
We teach Infant CPR classes (non-certification) to new and expecting parents, grandparents, and siblings at no cost. Our staff offers free safety talks / training for your organization.

We are excited and honored the new residents from Sovah are here this week for American Heart Association - CPR & First Aid training. This includes CPR for the BLS Provider, Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS), and Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS). The pictures are of the setup for ACLS. Thank you Sovah Health - Danville for allowing the DATC to be a part of their training.

Ever listen to the radio and hear your favorite artist collaborate with another artist? Our Recruit Academy EMT Class got to collab with the EMT Class at the Pittsylvania Career & Technical Center on April 25th. The PCTC EMT program was covering Mass Casualty Incident (MCI) I&II and invited our students to participate. All had fun and everyone learned a lot.
Thanks for the hospitality and great learning environment. Students from both classes are the future of EMS in our area. Keep learning!!
