You don’t always get to step away when stress rises, but you can support your nervous system right where you are.

Grounding exercises don’t have to be obvious or time consuming.

Here are three quiet, discreet ways to support yourself in stressful moments:

🧊 Hold something cool (a drink, your hands together) and notice the sensation.

🫁 Pay attention to your breath. Count each exhale up to 10, then start again.

✊ Clench your hands for five seconds, then slowly release.

🤷 Raise your shoulders slightly, then let them fall. Repeat a few times to release held tension.

Taking care of yourself can include going to therapy. If you’re ready for support, Family of Hands is here for you. Call (434) 272-8372, email familyofhands@pinecrestservices.com or send us a DM today.

At the heart of searching for support is a simple hope: to find a place that feels safe enough to begin.

In recent Google reviews, families have shared that at Family of Hands they:

🤍 worked with a therapist who “listened to my concerns while also giving my child a voice.”
🤍 experienced care that was “warm, calm, caring, thoughtful and professional.”
🤍felt supported by a team that “puts families first.”

We’re so grateful for these words — and for the trust behind them.

If you’ve had a positive experience with us and it feels comfortable to share, we invite you to leave a Google review: https://g.page/r/CYEKkcMES63zEBM/review

Even a few words can help someone else take that first step toward support. Thank you for being part of our community.

Stress doesn’t always look like screaming and crying. Sometimes it looks like irritability, shutting down or feeling disconnected from yourself or others.

This Stress Awareness Month we invite you to notice — without judgment — how stress shows up in your body and your relationships.

A small place to begin:
🌿 Pause.
🌿 Take a slow breath.
🌿 Gently ask, “What do I need right now?”

You don’t have to fix everything today. Support, safety and regulation happen in small, meaningful moments.

Today is World Bipolar Day. And behind every diagnosis is a person, not a stereotype.

Bipolar disorder in teens and young adults is often misunderstood — and sometimes missed.

It’s not just typical moodiness or “being dramatic.”

It involves significant shifts in mood, energy, sleep, behavior and functioning that go beyond normal developmental changes.

Recognizing the signs early can make a meaningful difference. Early support leads to better outcomes, stronger coping skills and more stability over time.

💙 If you’re concerned about a teen or young adult — or about yourself — you don’t have to navigate it alone. Reach out today.

🌸 Today marks the first day of spring.

The new season doesn’t fix everything, but this one does bring warmer weather. And research shows that time outdoors can meaningfully support mental health.

Here are 3 evidence-based reasons to step outside:

1️⃣ Sunlight supports serotonin and circadian rhythms.
Exposure to natural light helps regulate serotonin (linked to mood) and strengthens your sleep–wake cycle. Consistent daylight exposure has been associated with improved mood and better sleep quality.

2️⃣ Time around trees lowers stress hormones.
Studies on “forest bathing” (Shinrin-yoku) show that spending time in wooded environments reduces cortisol levels, blood pressure and heart rate — even after short exposures.

3️⃣ Nature exposure reduces rumination.
Research from Stanford found that walking in natural settings decreases activity in brain regions associated with repetitive negative thinking.

Spring doesn’t require a dramatic reset.

It might simply be an invitation to step outside for 10–20 minutes and notice what shifts.

💙 And if you need more structured support this season, we’re here.

“Don’t complain.”
“You ruined everything.”
“That wasn’t good enough.”

Would you say those words to a friend?

The way you speak to yourself matters. It shapes your confidence, your relationships and the risks you’re willing to take.

Self-talk creates your internal environment,
and if that environment is harsh, critical or dismissive, it can quietly limit what feels possible.

Start by noticing it.

When your inner critic gets loud:
1️⃣ Name it.
2️⃣ Question it.
3️⃣ Try speaking to yourself the way you would a close friend.

You don’t have to fake positivity. But you can practice fairness.

In our video blog, we’re talking about how to recognize negative self-talk and how to begin shifting it.

Feeling off? Stuck? Low on capacity?

Sometimes it’s the smallest things that help us shift: a breath, a pause or a few minutes outdoors.

Here are 5 gentle tips to support your mental health today:

1. Breathe on purpose.
2. Name what you're feeling.
3. Take a break from input.
4. Reach out.
5. Do one thing just for you.

💙 If you need more support, we’re here: familyofhands.com

Caregiving is an act of deep love — and it can also feel like A LOT. Because it is.

The emotional labor caregivers carry is often invisible and ongoing.

💙 On National Caregivers Day, we want to remind you:

✔️ You’re allowed to need a break.
✔️ You’re allowed to ask for help.
✔️ You’re allowed to say, “I love them, AND this is hard.”

At Family of Hands, we offer a place to set some of that down. (Even just for a little while.)

Call us today to schedule an appointment: 434-272-8372.
