Out of My Mind Meditation Center is as much social experiment as a place to go to ease the mind and fill the heart.
Is it possible to put together a space, open the doors and then trust that it will fill with some who have something to teach and those who want to learn?
Meditation is often an important part of personal growth and spiritual development. Places to learn about and practice different forms of meditation in many communities also offer workshops and classes. These meditation centers build community, foster social justice and healing and can become the heart of a city.
Some of the tools of personal growth and spiritual development are out of reach for the people who need them the most simply because of location and cost. Since many of us can’t go to where these centers are, maybe we can bring one to us.
Out Of My Mind is a new Meditation Center located at 110 North Second Street in Danville.
OOMM is a non-religious meeting space for anyone interested in learning to quiet the mind and become more connected to their true nature and to others.
Meditations will be led by people trained in various forms of meditation techniques such as Mindfulness Based Stress Reduction, Loving Kindness Meditation, Zen, Insight, Children’s meditation, Guided Meditations and more. Classes and workshops will address topics including substance abuse and PTSD recovery, purpose focusing techniques and great ideas from spiritual traditions such as Buddhism.
Following Buddhist tradition, all those leading meditations, teaching classes and workshops will do so without pay. Donations will be accepted to pay rent and utilities. There will be no paid employees.
There will be meditation. There will be teaching and learning. There will be laughter and art, a good amount of silliness and joy. There may even be music and merriment.
All who enter become co-creators of the center. All are welcome.
