Measles spreads faster than any other infectious disease we know. That’s why it's often the first to reappear when vaccination rates drop. And it’s not just contagious—it’s dangerous. Measles can cause serious complications, including pneumonia, brain swelling, and even death. And when overall vaccine coverage falls, it opens the door for other diseases to come back, too, like pertussis (whooping cough), which has also been surging in recent years. The only way to prevent and protect yourself and others is to get vaccinated. Learn more: https://bit.ly/48wdquK

Two infants in Kentucky have died of pertussis (also known as whooping cough) in the past six months. According to CDC data, reported cases increased to 12,513 in 2025, up from 7,321 in 2024. Pertussis is a highly contagious infection of the lungs that can cause serious health problems in small children. Vaccination is the best way to prevent whooping cough with the DTaP vaccine given at 2 months of age, with subsequent doses at 4 months and 6 months, and boosters at 15-18 months and 4-6 years. Healthy Kids Clinic Danville is truly fostering a love for reading and learning from an early age with the Reach Out and Read Program. Providing high-quality books at each well visit can spark imagination and lifelong learning. We are so happy to do this for our patients.

Reading with infants and young children can strengthen their relationships with their parents and caregivers and help support brain development. A new policy from AAP says pediatricians should encourage parents to read with their children from birth. Research shows reading together at young ages can build the foundation for language and cognitive development and help set the stage for school readiness.
