It’s been a topsy-turvy few weeks with added stressors, responsibilities & challenges. But I’m getting through it with as much grace as I can muster. Even with dirty hair, on a rainy day, I decided it would be a lot more fun to dress up with my favorite colorful scarf and lipstick. How do you show up for yourself when life gets messy and hard? This is your reminder to be good to yourself!

I keep hearing that freezing weather ❄️❄️❄️is expected to hit the Eastern US in the coming days as “the polar vortex moves.”🧐🤨💭🤔Who really knows?! But—if it does, temps are expected to remain below average for the South East & East Coast through the first half of January. The Gulf & Florida could also experience temps below freezing.

And—Meteorologists are also predicting heavy snow for the Great Lakes & Appalachians, as well as bitter wind chills.🥶

So—how do we prepare?

❄️First—make sure you have a generator in case heat goes out. Plenty of warm blankets & make sure you are stocked up with nourishing food (Now is a good time to can & freeze extra stews & soups. Add oregano oil for immune-boosting)!

❄️Ensure you have resources including flash lights, batteries & non-toxic candles, plenty of wood for fireplaces.

❄️Keep cabinet doors open underneath the sink, so warm air can move through to the pipes. You can leave faucets dripping, ever so slightly so that pipes do not freeze. I also like to use a bath tub liner & fill up with water that we can always filter if needed…

❄️And be sure to have these essential oils on hand for warming…Cedarwood, Copaiba & Cypress are great to be used topically on hands and feet to create a warming sensation and help promote circulation! You can take an old jar and fill it with the unscented doTERRA lotion and several drops of each of these oils. Mix it up and you’ll have it on hand for a nice warming lotion. You can use spicy oils like Ginger (10% off in Jan), Cinnamon & Cassia in hot water & tea to warm you up from the inside out & keep your immunity high.

❄️ Finally, make sure you have water & other necessary emergency supplies in your car just in case you are commuting or traveling when I see weather so you can stay safe: water, snacks, blankets, non-skid boots or hiking shoes, ice scrapers & more… Keep your car gassed up at all times this January! Stay safe out there, friends… and be sure to share these tips with family & friends!!!❄️❄️❄️🙏🙏🙏

Have you ever thought about using your favorite essential oil to help “anchor” positive changes or help you commit to a new routine?

Research into “aromachology” (aroma-psychology) suggests that scent is closely connected with memory & emotion—and that scent can affect your behavior.

Athletes sometimes use aromachology to their advantage, using a specific scent while they train. One former professional athlete wrote:

“I consciously used olfaction to create a specific mood, mindset, and target behavior. For example, the smell of sunscreen reminds me of summer and fills me with energy… On gray, wintry days when I was training in a depressing gym, the smell of sunscreen evoked all the positive emotions associated with summertime.”

He enjoyed his training more . . . and the more you enjoy something, the more likely you are to stick with it!

Is there a certain scent that, every time you smell it, it makes you feel happy, energized or fulfilled?

A scent that brings up happy childhood memories?

This weekend, as you start to think about your new years goals, grab your box of oils & start smelling. Pick an oil to help you anchor the positive changes you hope to accomplish this coming year! And share with us below which one you’re going to use and what your goals are. Let’s support each other here!

I was working out yesterday downtown when a van from an assisted living home pulled up on the other side of the gym window. The driver got out of his vehicle and lowered a ramp so that a woman on a motorized scooter could get in. She looked frail and tired—and totally reliant on the driver for help.

I looked to my workout partner & personal trainer who were next to me, and said. “THIS is why we commit to being here every day—even though it’s hard.” They both nodded & exclaimed “Exactly.” I could tell it brought up some thought & emotion for us all because at that moment, I’m guessing we were thinking about people in each of our families who haven’t aged as well as we would have liked…

What are you doing today for your health so that you can beat your “genetic odds?” The good news is that WE can control so much of our future health with proper nutrition, supplementation, exercise & by managing the toxic load in our environment.

Is there something in your family history that makes you nervous that you want to proactively address or overcome? Whether you’re comfortable posting that here or not, reach out! Id love to have a conversation & come up with a proactive plan. That’s one of my greatest joys in being a Wellness Advocate.

The coolest thing about essential oils is how they work at a cellular level. They are not a Band-Aid approach like synthetic medication that cannot permeate & nourish the cell like essential oils can!

I help people daily address cellular health, immunity, gut health, sleep, stress, discomfort & so much more!

Need some J O Y on a Tuesday? Pick some flowers! Nothing captures the sweet tail-end-of-Summer for me like rescuing some of the heavy, overgrown pink-tinged Limelight Hydrangeas in my yard & filling vases & vessels throughout my home. They dry beautifully for Fall arrangements too!

Challenge: Do something kind for yourself & one other person today. Watch their face light up in surprise. And I promise, you’ll have a great day in doing so!!!

When I start feeling like this, I have a simple strategy:

1. Talk Yourself Off the Ledge.

Ask yourself: What are the things that are in my control? What is the best use of my time right now? Create a list in your phone.

Start doing some of the no-brainer things on the list just so you can accomplish some small things. Before you know it, you’re developing a healthy coping mechanism to keep going. You’ll calm & re-focus your mind & be productive in the meantime.

2. Phone A Friend!

I have two dear friends who I talk to every day. One through voice text & another through Marco Polo. Sometimes it helps just to share how I’m feeling. The people who know us best tend to know just how to help us find positive perspective. Sometimes we just need validation!

3. Oil Up!

Yes, essential oils really help! Clinical research has proven that inhaling pure essential oils is real science! Within just 20- 30 seconds of using an essential oil topically, aromatically, or internally, the oils get into your bloodstream and into your limbic system, & through the amygdala which controls emotions. Within 20 minutes they’re servicing every cell in your body! Oils leave your system within two hours so remember to reapply!

4. Create a happy distraction!

Go for a walk. Take a dip in the pool. Read chapter in a new book or a passage in your Bible. Journal. Cook something healthy. Pull out a puzzle or a coloring book. Refinish a piece of furniture or work on a craft. Research also shows that these are healthy hobbies that lower stress levels & help us focus on something else.

5. Focus on Gratitude.

Rome was not built in a day. Maybe certain things in life feel out of control and bring about feelings so sadness, discouragement, or confusion. But there are good things happening simultaneously. Can you create a list of 3- 5 things for which you are grateful today? You’ve got this!

Do you have a little one in your family? I love how we can rely on these safe products for baby and young kiddos. Even as adults, we use the diaper cream for rashes and skin, irritation from shaving, sun, ☀️🕶️etc..

This diaper cream provides an SPF equivalent of 30 🧴so we actually used to use it before the doTERRA sunscreen line came out! Ana-Clare and I love to use the baby wash as our shower gel because it smells like serenity. 👃And the lotion is a dream. 💞It’s my mom’s favorite!

A wonderful, nontoxic gift for friends and family who have babies or babies on the way—or just sensitive skin.🍼👶💞

Ants. I hate ‘em! 🐜🐜🐜Above ALL pests, they truly give me the creepy-crawlies…😳

You can find just one lone “scout ant” & within the next 24 hours, you can get an infestation! It only takes one to “hit hitch a ride” on peonies from the garden ore to find its way inside on your clothing, etc…and summer picnics usually mean summer ants. Soooo—why not put your oils to good use!?!?

Simply fill a spray bottle with 20 drops of peppermint and 20 drops of arborvitae. And water. (You could also use Cedarwood or cinnamon if you don’t have arborvitae handy).

If you get them in the kitchen, you can spray down the cabinets, the doorways and windows and then leave a few cotton balls in the doorways and windows, all the entry points, spritzing with this same oil blend. This solution truly works!

Think about the little things you can do that make a huge impact reducing toxic load in your home.

Do you ever wonder about the chemicals in the dishwashing detergent that gets stuck on your dishes, bowls, glasses and silverware? That gets into our bloodstream!!!

Re-posting a favorite weekend project that many people have asked me about. We love this recipe!—

The residue from the chemicals in mainstream dishwashing detergent & pods get into our systems & are, in part, responsible for a slew of health problems ranging from respiratory & gut issues to hormonal imbalance, reproductive health complications, skin sensitivity & more. It was found that some of the chemicals in dishwashing detergent and rinse aids are known carcinogenics…

So why not switch to something healthier that will be pennies on the dollar and just take a couple of minutes to make???

I’ve tried numerous recipes throughout the years that did not work, fully getting my dishes, clean and glassware clear but this recipe works like a charm…

Homemade Dishwasher Powder:

First, PREP & CLEAN out dishwasher…

ONLY DO THIS ONE TIME before using this natural solution to prepare your dishwasher:

Add half a cup of citric acid. Turn on your dishwasher for 5 minutes.

Let it sit for an hour allowing all the existing toxic residue in dishwasher to dissolve before using this homemade detergent.

Then let the dishwasher run the whole full cycle.

NOW, onto the recipe:

This recipe makes 42 loads at only 8 cents per load!

Here’s what you’ll need:

1 cup of washing soda (not baking soda)
1 cup of Borax
1/2 cup of kosher salt
1/4 cup citric acid
20 drops lemon essential oil

Store in glass container. Voila!

How to use:

Use 1 tablespoon of the homemade detergent per load. If it’s a bigger load, feel free to use 2 tablespoons. I personally use 2 tablespoons, and the results have been amazing so far!

***Just remember, this is an all-natural detergent, so make sure to rinse off stubborn food stains off dishes before using.
