A manufacturer recalled nearly 5,000 youth all-terrain vehicles (ATVs) following the death of a 6-year-old boy last year. The recall includes 4,900 Rex110 and Sierra110 youth ATVs manufactured by Lil Pick Up Inc., of Rowland Heights, Calif. The vehicles fail to meet the maximum speed limitations for ATVs intended for kids ages 6 years and older.

If you have one of the recalled youth ATVs, you should immediately stop using it and contact Lil Pick Up for a full refund. Learn more: https://bit.ly/4mLs4WQ

There's a difference between "surprises", like a birthday party or holiday gift, and a "don't tell your mom/dad" secret. The latter triangulates/confuses a child's loyalty and contributes to grooming. Know the difference.

Our words matter, and this is one of many reasons why shifting from punishment to positive parenting is so impactful.

Why raw milk is trending, and why experts still warn against it.

In the age of “natural” and “wellness first,” raw milk, that is, milk that hasn’t been pasteurized, has seen a surge in interest. Some people online claim it’s more nutritious, full of untapped enzymes, or better for the gut, and social media influencers have amplified those messages as part of a broader clean-eating trend.

However, here’s the reality: raw milk isn’t safer or healthier than pasteurized milk, and in fact, it can be much more dangerous. Because it hasn’t been heat-treated to kill harmful microbes, it can carry bacteria like Listeria, E. coli, Salmonella, Campylobacter, and more germs that pasteurization was specifically designed to eliminate.

These bacteria don’t just cause a stomach bug, they can lead to severe illness, hospitalization, or even death, especially in people at higher risk like infants, pregnant people, older adults, and anyone with a weaker immune system. That’s why health officials are sounding the alarm after a newborn’s death was likely linked to raw milk consumption during pregnancy.

Pasteurization doesn’t reduce the nutritional value of milk, it protects us from pathogens that can hide in raw dairy. So if you’re choosing what’s best for your family, the safest path is clear: stick with pasteurized dairy products.

🚨 Raw milk isn’t a health food — it’s a serious safety risk, especially for kids.

You may have seen headlines like “Ballerina Farm halts raw milk sales after failed health test.” Routine lab work found contamination that forced a stop in sales. But trust in a farm or “good cows” isn’t enough — dangerous bacteria can be present even in milk that smells and looks fine.

Here’s what the evidence and public health experts say 👇

🥛 Raw milk = unpasteurized milk.
That means it hasn’t been heated to kill harmful germs. Pasteurization was invented specifically to stop illnesses from milk. It kills dangerous bacteria like Salmonella, E. coli, Campylobacter, Listeria and other organisms that can cause life-threatening sickness. Pasteurized milk delivers the same nutrients safely, without these pathogens. (CDC, FDA)

⚠️ Children are especially vulnerable.
Public health authorities strongly recommend against giving raw milk to children because their immune systems are still developing. Raw milk has been linked to outbreaks in which kids make up the majority of cases, and they are much more likely to get seriously ill, dehydrated, hospitalized, or worse from foodborne bacteria.

📊 Nutritionally, pasteurized and raw milk are essentially the same. Major scientific reviews find no clear evidence that raw milk offers additional health benefits over pasteurized milk — but the risks of raw milk illness are well documented.

🙅‍♀️ Trusting a farm, the cows, or the idea that “true food isn’t processed” won’t protect your child from bacteria. Pasteurization protects them — and that’s why it’s recommended by every major pediatric and infectious disease authority.

🧠 Bottom line: Giving raw milk to children is not a safe choice. Choose pasteurized milk for the same nutrition — with far less risk of serious illness.

Reports that young children in Minnesota were taken into immigration custody are heartbreaking and underscore the urgent need for policies that protect family unity and children’s wellbeing. As pediatricians, we know children thrive when they feel safe, supported, and loved. Actions that expose kids to trauma undermine their healthy development. Every child deserves love, security, and the chance to grow up without fear.
