💜November is Pancreatic Cancer Awareness Month
Pancreatic cancer begins in the cells of the pancreas, an organ behind the lower stomach that produces digestive enzymes and hormones like insulin.

There are two main types: exocrine pancreatic cancer, which accounts for about 95% of cases, and endocrine or pancreatic neuroendocrine tumors. Risk factors include smoking, obesity, diabetes, chronic pancreatitis, and certain hereditary conditions, but are not limited to these. The National Cancer Institute estimates that 67,440 people will be diagnosed with pancreatic cancer in the U.S. in 2025.

🤍 November is Lung Cancer Awareness Month
Lung cancer begins in the tissues of the lungs, most often in the cells lining the air passages. It is generally classified into two main types: non–small cell lung cancer (NSCLC), which accounts for the majority of cases, and small cell lung cancer (SCLC).

Risk factors include, but are not limited to, smoking, exposure to secondhand smoke, radon, certain workplace chemicals, and air pollution. Lung cancer can also occur in people with no history of to***co use.

November also includes awareness for another type of cancer—Pancreatic Cancer—which we will highlight soon.

💜 November marks Gastric Cancer Awareness Month, a time to highlight the impact of stomach cancer and the importance of early detection. Most gastric cancers are adenocarcinomas, which begin in the mucosal lining of the stomach. Adenocarcinomas develop in glandular cells. The cells that line many organs and produce substances such as mucus and digestive fluids. This type of cancer is also common in organs, including the breast, lung, colon, and prostate.

Through the rest of the month, we will also recognize two additional November cancer awareness initiatives: Lung Cancer Awareness Month and Pancreatic Cancer Awareness Month.

Myth: Microwaving food in plastic releases harmful, cancer-causing chemicals.
Fact: Only plastics not labeled microwave-safe may pose a risk. Containers and wraps marked as microwave-safe are designed to withstand heat and won’t leach harmful substances into your food. ✅

Microwaving food safely also means avoiding damaged or old containers, and never using plastic meant for single use (like takeout clamshells) in the microwave.
