🚨🚨🚨 IT’S HERE. IT’S HERE. IT’S HERE!!! 🚨🚨🚨

Danville… meet TRANSPORT 30.

Our newest ambulance has officially arrived! She is nearly ready to begin service at the new Eastside Station. Yesterday we did final checks, and today she’s headed to get outfitted with radios. Then she rolls— off to provide life saving care to our community!

But here’s the part we want you to hear loud and clear: (and to celebrate!!) YOU helped make this happen.

During our 80th Anniversary campaign—“Help Us Upgrade Our Bread Truck”, you helped raise nearly ‼️ $60,000‼️toward getting this ambulance on the road.

That means when Transport 30 rolls out for the very first call…
-You’re riding with us.
-You’re part of that response.
-You helped put lifesaving care on the road in Danville.

We truly hope you feel proud of this investment. We hope you see it going doing the road and say “I helped put that ambulance on the road!’

Since 1945, this community has stepped up in incredible ways—
and this is what it looks like in 2026.

Thank you, thank you, thank you for helping us put this new ambulance on the road! Your support truly means the world to us!

We want to take a minute to give a BIG shoutout to our own Shift Captain Seth Sunde!

This morning, Seth was recently recognized by Sovah Health for going above and beyond (and given one of their brand new challenge coins, which in the EMS world, is a big deal!). For us, this is one of those moments that reminds us exactly who our people are. And we couldn't be prouder!

While Seth was in the Emergency Department with a patient, a cardiac emergency happened in the waiting room. The ED team was already stretched thin, and before anyone could even fully respond, Seth made a quick call—he left his patient safely in the care of his partner and stepped in to begin CPR.

No hesitation. Just action. Exactly when it mattered most.

He stayed with it until hospital staff could take over—making sure care started right then, not a moment later.

That’s what it looks like when highly trained crews step forward.
That’s what it looks like when minutes matter.

Way to go, Seth! Thank you for the way you show up—for your patients, for your partners, and for this community.
This is what it means to make a difference every single day.

And big thanks to Sovah Health - Danville for taking the time to recognize one of our Crew members! We're grateful to have you as our partners in caring for our community!

Last week, we had the chance to show a little appreciation to the dispatchers at Danville Emergency Communications Center during National Public Safety Telecommunicators Week.

When you call for help, they are the calm voice on the other end, the steady link between crisis and response, and an essential part of every emergency call. Their work matters more than most people ever see.

We’re grateful for their partnership and for the care, professionalism, and commitment they bring to our community every day. Thank you for all you do.

Today, we join our community in mourning the loss of Investigator Nicolas “Nick” Samuels.

We extend our heartfelt sympathies to the Pittsylvania County Sheriff’s Office and stand with our brothers and sisters in law enforcement as they grieve one of their own. We are also keeping Investigator Samuels’ family, friends, and colleagues in our thoughts and prayers.

Today we pause to remember one of our own.

Not every loss in law enforcement comes with flashing lights or headlines. Some come quietly, without warning, leaving a silence that feels just as heavy. Today we mourn the passing of Investigator Nicolas "Nick" Samuels, a coworker, a friend, and a dedicated member of our Special Investigations Division who served with integrity, humility, and quiet strength.

Nick was the kind of investigator who didn’t seek recognition but earned respect. He approached his work with focus and determination, always committed to doing things the right way. Whether working a case, supporting a fellow deputy, or simply showing up day after day, he brought a steady presence that others relied on.

Nick may not have fallen in the line of duty but make no mistake—his service mattered. Every case he touched, every life he impacted, and every effort he gave contributed to the safety of this community and the strength of this office. That kind of commitment does not go unnoticed, and it will not be forgotten.

Behind the badge was a man who cared—about his work, his fellow officers, and the people he served. The kind of coworker you could count on without question. The kind of presence that made long days more manageable and difficult moments a little easier to bear.

We grieve alongside his family, friends, and all who had the privilege of knowing him. We also honor his life by carrying forward the example he set—of professionalism, dedication, and quiet service to something greater than himself.

Rest easy, Investigator Nicolas Samuels. Your watch has ended, but your impact remains.

The last few days have been busy in Danville, from the Bridge2Bridge 5k on Saturday to the Special Olympics today. We love standing with--and standing by-- our community as you get out there and do what you love.

And here’s something most people don’t realize:
Between community events like these and air transport standbys, the Danville Life Saving Crew provides over 600 standbys every single year.

That’s 600+ times we show up—not because something has gone wrong…
…but to make sure if it does, you’re not alone.

Thank you for letting us be part of a community that shows up for each other. And thanks to Bryant Hood for sharing this outstanding picture of the Crew at the Bridge 2 Bridge!

Well… the safe has been opened, the contents have been revealed, and we regret to inform you that not one single person guessed...... floppy disks. 😂

What was actually inside?
- lots of floppy disks
- an old trust
-printer software
-some keys
- Danville Regional Medical Center access cards
(so yes, this safe had apparently been preserving artifacts from another era)
-external hard drives so old that some person who shall remain nameless had absolutely no idea what they were...bless her heart.

We’re not saying we were let down…
but we are saying there were no Twinkies, and frankly we're a little bummed. We had high hopes of testing the theory that they will last FOREVER!

We had several close answers, so we randomly drew a name of those that were closest. Congrats to Amy Gammon-Worely you’ve won a free CPR class! (Please send your contact info to klosee@dlsc.org so we can help you claim your prize!)

Thanks to everyone who guessed. This was weird, wonderful, and exactly the kind of fun we like around here. (Our jobs get awfully serious sometimes. Thanks for having a little fun with us!)

WHAT’S IN THE SAFE?! Best guess wins a FREE CPR class!

We were finishing the last little bit of cleanup from our recent flood (YAY! We're fully back in our offices!) and in the process, found an old safe that no one had a key to… so naturally, some of our leadership team took that as a challenge.

With the crash truck, a plasma cutter, and just enough determination to make this either a great idea or a terrible one, Bryan Fox, Brian Alderson, and Johnny Mills got it open.

Now we want to know:
What do YOU think is inside?
Drop your best guess in the comments, and the person with the closest answer will win a FREE CPR class from the Danville Area Training Center!

Will it be:
💰 cash?
🗝 mysterious keys?
👻 a cursed object?
🍪 someone’s 1974 emergency snack stash?

Make your guess below! All guesses made before 10 a.m. on Friday will be considered. We'll post the winner on right here on our page.

We thought about announcing something big today…
Like replacing our ambulances with helicopters. Or switching over to providers on roller skates.

We’re seeing all these clever April Fools posts, and we REALLY wanted to join the fun.

But we thought and we thought, and honestly? We just couldn’t come up with anything wilder sounding than what we actually do.

Nearly 15,000 calls a year.
Over 40 times a day, someone in this community calls—and we go.

No scheduling. No “we’ll circle back.” No joke.
Just what we do.

Keep the clever posts coming, though.
We’re living vicariously!

Feel Good Fridays are our favorite!

When we saw this comment in a local Facebook group, it made our day! We don't do this work for the shoutouts, but it made us smile for sure. There’s nothing better than hearing that one of our crew members was exactly what someone needed in a hard moment.

What may feel like “just doing the job” to our crew can mean so much more to the person on the receiving end. We’re incredibly proud of our crew of compassionate professionals who serve this community with calm, care, and heart every single day.

And we’re always grateful when people take the time to make our days a little brighter with their kind words!
