Soul Garden Recovery Center

Soul Garden Recovery Center Family focused long-term recovery promotion group. The property was initially deeded to the Vermilion County Land Bank by the local hospital-Order of St.

Soul Garden Soul Garden Recovery Center was established as a Non-Profit Corporation in the state of Illinois on September 22, 2014 with the intent to raise money for a community center which would offer a visible haven and a home for Soul Garden Recovery Center meetings, support groups, resources and activities devoted to addiction recovery and family healing. The visionaries and founders were all either people with addiction issues who were in recovery, or family members of a person with addiction issues who had witnessed the cycle of addiction and knew the importance of peer support through meetings, fellowship and community. The founders were frustrated with the lack of support for people of diverse needs and the lack of safe, private places to hold meetings when they are most needed most-on weekends and holidays. The steering group solicited support from community organizations, churches and individuals while also serving as a “rescue” type role centering around telephone and social media interactions with people needing information, referrals, and assistance. The group also sponsored community awareness and public education activities as well as numerous fundraising events all while searching for an appropriate building to call the Soul Garden Recovery Center home. In February 2019, Soul Garden Recovery Center moved to its current location at 801 West Fairchild in Danville. Francis (OSF Healthcare). SGRC hopes to secure ownership from the Land Bank in the next few years. As part of a growing trend to move toward not for profit missions to become self-supporting, SGRC has a bakery and craft enterprise-Comfort and Joy Pies, Puffs and Other Stuff SCRC does not want to depend on government funding for sustainability and has decided to do what is being suggested by many social service advisors by blending the not for profit sector with a social enterprise called Comfort and Joy Pies and Puffs (and other stuff). A social enterprise is an organization that combines the social mission of a non-profit organization with the market-driven approach of a business. Our social enterprise will be a business which makes and sells pies and cream puffs and which may handmade crafts on consignment (the other stuff). SGRC also intends to develop a Serenity Garden across the street from the center to serve as a place for mindful mediation and community sharing and also as a show of respect for the neighborhood and beautification.

General information

Soul Garden Recovery Center welcomes anyone who could benefit from support groups, resources and activities devoted to addiction recovery and family healing in our safe, supportive, and drug free environment. It is operated by peers and volunteers who are passionate and hopeful about recovery and family healing, and every activity will be designed to help people with their journey to sobriety and family stability. We welcome people in all stages of recovery and those approaching recovery from different perspectives. Our programs, services, and support are designed to meet the needs of anyone affected by addiction including (but not limited to):  People with addiction who are in recovery.  Children of parents who have addiction problems.  Family members of people who have addiction problems.  Community members wanting information and training about addiction and recovery.  Grandparents or other relatives raising children displaced due to addiction.  Churches which desire to provide comfort classes to children who are affected by parental addiction.  People who have lost loved ones due to addiction/drug problems Soul Garden Recovery Center is supportive of those who are having trouble with abstinence. Supporting those who are still actively using helps them to move into recovery, but it has to be done without enabling unhealthy behaviors. We support many who choose a path that includes chemical replacement therapies such as Methadone and Buprenorphine. Anyone seeking recovery is welcome at our recovery center as long as they are not in possession of drugs, decompensating so badly they are not appropriate for a social environment or so badly under the influence that they are disruptive. We do ask those who are under the influence of alcohol to only remain in the center for recovery meetings or while actively looking for treatment. This policy was enacted to avoid enabling active users and to maintain a recovery environment. We also ask that our homeless visitors demonstrate some commitment to the Soul Garden Recovery Center process instead of a commitment to our coffee, warm space and comfortable chairs
