What is the difference between Thai massage and Swedish Massage??
Since we have started Thai Massage business. I have been asking many times about the difference between Swedish massage and Thai massage. And also what is Thai Massage??
Let's start talking about Thai and Swedish Massage.
Thai Massage is eastern modality and originally comes from India, an ancient healing art that dates back for more than 2500 years. Swedish Massage is a western modality and referred to as classic massage.
Swedish massage uses five basic strokes; effleurage, petrissage, tapotement, friction and vibration/shaking. These techniques are based on western anatomy and physiology and their aim is to achieve relaxing and healing effects.
Traditional Thai massage is a form of bodywork that combines broad and targeted acupressure, manipulation of energy lines called sen, and assisted yoga postures. There is constant body contact between the practitioner and client, but rather than rubbing on muscles, the body is compressed, pulled, stretched and rocked in order to clear energy blockages, relieve tension and thus stimulating the flow of blood and lymph throughout the body. Joints are opened, muscles and tendons are stretched, internal organs are toned, nerves are calmed, energy is balanced. The overall effect is one of deep relaxation, rejuvenation, and physical and mental well being.
Swedish massage, the client lies on massage table, generally undressed underneath a towel or sheet. The therapist uncovers only the part of the body being worked on, lubricates the skin with massage oil.
Thai massage is traditionally done on floor mat, rarely uses oils or lotions, and the client wears lightweight clothing during a
treatment.
At Vara Thai Massage, we provided both Traditional Thai and Swedish massage as well as combination and Thai Therapeutic Massage.
