Do your research, these products may come from natural plants, but just like THC and other products, they’re nothing like their natural counterparts that they’re derived from.

The Center for Forensic Science Research & Education (CFSRE) performed a “Smoke Shop Test” with the goal to analyze and confirm the substances found in kratom derivative 7-Hydroxy mitragynine (7OH) products acquired from v**e or smoke shops. A comprehensive review in the journal Pain and Therapy noted that kratom use is increasing. Individuals suffering with chronic pain or substance withdrawal or dependence will often discover and choose kratom-derived products, marketed as a legal and less expensive alternative. When these products are manufactured without oversight, the likelihood of toxic and potentially lethal ingredients significantly increases.

According to the lab test, legally purchased samples of kratom products marketing “7OH” did contain 7-hydroxy mitragynine (most as the primary component). All products also contained at least detectable amounts of mitragynine and mitragynine pseudoindoxyl, as well as some other Kratom alkaloids. Mitragynine pseudoindoxyl is reported to be 100x more potent the original substance.

Alcohol use doesn’t just impact younger populations—it’s something many older adults are navigating, often quietly and without support. Awareness matters at every age, and so does making sure people know they’re not alone.
