The whole family needs to stay warm and safe this weekend! 🙏🤞
❄With the current (and UPCOMING!) Extreme Cold, it's important that you take care and be mindful of your pets and how it affects them, too! ❄
1. Be mindful of their tolerance for the cold! A smaller dog will get cold faster than a larger one, but they'll both still get cold!
2. Give your car hood a good knock or two - warm engines are an attractive place for strays to hide from the cold. Give them a chance to skedaddle before turning your vehicle on!
3. Watch for signs of hypothermia! Shivering, lethargy, confusion, cold extremities, and light-colored gums.
4. Include your pet in your emergency plans! You may know what you'll do if your heating goes out, but what about your cat or dog?
5. Use pet-safe ice melt! Many ice melts contain chemicals that can get on your pets' paws, and poison them if they lick them!
6. Check their paws for damage from the cold! Frostbite can affect their paws quickly, before you even realize.
