Community events celebrating America’s 250th truly are something special.

The Montour County Historical Society was glad to be in the house and lend a hand for this wonderful evening of history, community, and patriotism. It was inspiring to see so many people come together to experience The Signing of the Declaration of Independence and enjoy a memorable night at Carver Hall.

Thank you to everyone who helped make the event such a success. We are proud to be part of the excitement as our region continues celebrating America 250.

What a wonderful reminder that history is all around us. Congratulations to Montour Area Recreation Commission celebrating the J. Manley Robbins Trail, a site with deep local roots and national significance. Known as the oldest documented rail-trail in the country by Pennsylvania trail sources, it is an amazing example of the stories and places that make Montour County so special. We are proud to have this piece of history in our own backyard.

We had a very special visitor at the Mooresburg One Room Schoolhouse.

As an affiliate partner of America250PA, the Montour County Historical Society was excited to welcome the Keystone Kid for a stop at the schoolhouse—and of course, a chance to ring the bell. 🔔

A fun and memorable visit as we continue celebrating Pennsylvania’s history and looking ahead to America’s 250th.

For 87 years, the Montour County Historical Society has been protecting and preserving our area’s history.

Since 1939, generations of volunteers, members, and supporters have worked to safeguard the stories, artifacts, buildings, and traditions that make Montour County unique. From the 1792 Montgomery House to the Boyd House collections and the Mooresburg One-Room School, we continue the mission of honoring our past while educating future generations.

As we celebrate our 87th year, we thank everyone who has helped carry this work forward.
We will be participating in Raise the Region on March 11 &12. We truly appreciated our community and hope to get a few donations.

Here’s to preserving our history—together.

Raise the Region, taking place March 11–12. This annual event helps support local nonprofits, including the Montour County Historical Society.

For 87 years, our work has been made possible by the generosity of our community. Volunteers have given their time to shovel snow, mow grass, paint buildings, clean museum spaces, catalog artifacts, and preserve the documents and stories that define our region. Others have supported us through donations and memberships.

The Montour County Historical Society exists because of this continued community support.

Please consider making a gift during Raise the Region on March 11–12 to help us continue protecting and preserving Montour County’s history.

Where History Meets Today.

Ever wonder what happens at the Montour County Historical Society when the doors are closed? The work never stops.

Behind the scenes, we are archiving new donations, cataloging artifacts, preserving historic documents and photographs, dusting and carefully cleaning collections, vacuuming and maintaining our buildings, researching local families and stories, organizing exhibits, planning future programs, and applying for grants to sustain our preservation efforts.

And yes, there is always more archiving

Protecting Montour County’s history takes steady, dedicated work every day, even when the lights are off and the doors are locked.
