This is a great explanation of how the Grief Recovery Method works and why it’s different.

Wondering how the Grief Recovery Method is different from traditional grief support?

Great Question!

One big difference is that we don’t separate people by the type of loss they’ve experienced. Everyone is welcome no matter why their heart is broken. That may sound wild since it’s not how most grief support groups work, so let’s take a look at why we do that.
Even if two people experienced the same type of loss they still wouldn’t have the exact same experiences because all relationships are unique. For example, let’s say the father of two twin sisters died. That sounds about as close as you can get to people experiencing the same type of loss right? Well those two sisters are still individual people. One might have had a great relationship with her dad and the other not so much.

To compare one person’s loss to another’s, regardless of the cause or type of loss, discounts, minimizes, or trivializes their feelings or experience.

We have found that focusing on the type of loss puts the focus in the wrong place. Yes, the type of loss is important because it’s why someone’s heart is broken, but we mainly focus on how to help people. The Grief Recovery Method is a universal solution that will work for anyone that is willing to do the work.

Another myth-the stages of grief.

Did you know that there are no stages of Grief? In 1969, Elizabeth Kubler Ross wrote the book On Death and Dying in which she discussed emotions that a patient might feel upon finding out they have a terminal illness. The stages are Denial, Anger, Bargaining, Depression, and Acceptance. The problem is that people have applied these arbitrary stages that a terminal patient MIGHT feel to something that all grievers DO feel. And it’s simply not true. Some grievers cry, some don’t. Some grievers are angry, others are not. Grief is unique to each individual, so classifying stages can be harmful.

We’re bombarded with ads about happy holidays yet many struggle just to get through the holidays. This is a great article which speaks to dealing with grief during the holidays-plus an option to download a free ebook from The Grief Recovery Method.

Do you feel sad around the holidays? A lot of people do. The holidays are supposed to be about family, giving, and tradition. So why do many people have a hard time? Are there more deaths, break-ups and other losses during the holiday season? The answer is no. There are no more losses in December th...

Short Term Energy Relieving Behaviors (S.T.E.R.B.'s) are activities that distract your attention from grief which creates the illusion that you're recovering. Sadly, they don't work.

Attending a Grief Recovery weekend workshop literally changed my life. I had been stuck trying to figure out how to heal my broken heart and move on. John James showed me the way and gave me the tools I needed. The Grief Recovery Method is amazing!

John W. James founded the Grief Recovery Institute forty years ago as the result of being unable to find the resources he needed to assist him in dealing with the overwhelming grief he was experiencing from the death of his own infant son. We are a company of grievers who help other grievers. That's part of the magic of the Grief Recovery Method.

People are talking about the grief related to the coronavirus pandemic - the loss, the isolation, the deaths, the changes in our routines, the loss of hopes/dreams/expectations - "normal." But there is a second epidemic right behind this one - beginning already perhaps - and that is a likely increase in "deaths of desperation" as they're called by the Wellbeing Trust and Trust for America's Health. Deaths of desperation - just another phrase for grief. Think about that - deaths due to grief. What if we called it that - deaths due to grief - by the means of alcohol, drugs and su***de. Grief has always been an unrecognized Public Health issue. But now more than ever, we're hearing the word. Check out the information in this link and then check out the full reports referenced in this brief piece. https://www.cbsnews.com/news/coronavirus-deaths-su***des-drugs-alcohol-pandemic-75000/ And then - visit the Grief Recovery Method website - griefrecoverymethod.com or message me for information. The Grief Recovery Method is an easily accessible, community-based, evidence-based intervention - in groups or one/ones - to help recover from that grief There is a second program as well - Helping Children with Loss - for ADULTS - to help the children in their care - parents, teachers, youth pastors, children's services, day care staff, anyone who cares for or about kids - to help them help the youth in their care. While the coronavirus pandemic is horrible - so is the second wave behind it - these deaths due to grief - deaths of despair. Learn more - be ready to do more!

Job loss, isolation and anxiety could lead to more deaths from su***de and substance abuse over the next 10 years, researchers say.
