Our hearts and prayers go out to the victims, their families, and the first responders, hospital staff, and the extensive support staff who came together to serve in this tragedy. There are far too many organizations to list from all over Western New York. It is amazing to see so many people working together, from those on the front lines to those in the hospitals, whether you're an ED Nurse treating patients, environmental services staff cleaning rooms and preparing beds, or those who took time out of their day to deliver food and water to first responders. Thank you to the hundreds of people in our WNY community who made an impact today.
Today has been an incredibly busy and difficult day for emergency services in Genesee County and surrounding counties. Here in LeRoy, we started the day responding to a double fatal accident in our district. Later in the day, as you all now know, a tour bus rolled over on the Thruway in Pembroke, causing unimaginable casualties. Agencies from Genesee County and all contiguous counties played a role in responding to this incident and helping to cover 911 calls throughout the rest of the county.
There are far too many agencies to thank, but we are EXTREMELY proud of the way in which EVERYONE stepped up and did their absolute best in the midst of an impossible situation. We truly are Genesee County Strong.
Here in LeRoy, immediately upon hearing about the accident, we paged out for all available crew members to come into work. We were able to staff both ambulances and our flycar for the afternoon. One ambulance and the fly car responded to the thruway incident while our primary duty crew remained in the district covering LeRoy and surrounding areas to ensure that no calls went unanswered - including a car accident at 19&490 that we were able to cover with both of our ambulances, and assistance of an ambulance from Bergen Fire Department.
Today was a day absolutely overflowing with tragedies, and our thoughts are with those affected by these incidents. Please know that everyone across our entire region gave their all today to make as much of a difference as humanly possible.
