Thank You, Everyone. Prevention in Action!

This past weekend, the Darien team was proud to once again participate in the 14th Annual Health, Wellness & Lifestyle Expo at the Harbor Point Boardwalk. We were inspired by the hundreds of conversations we shared with community members about vascular health, prevention, and the simple steps that can make a big difference.

Our mission goes beyond treating disease, it’s about raising awareness and empowering people to act early. Events like this remind us that knowledge truly is power, and prevention is the key to healthier legs, stronger circulation, and a better quality of life.

A heartfelt thank you to Stamford Health and Harbor Point for hosting such an impactful event, and to everyone who stopped by to say hello. We look forward to continuing these conversations in the months ahead, and to seeing you at next year’s Expo!

Peripheral artery disease, or PAD, is a disease that affects more than 200 million adults worldwide, a higher prevalence than ischemic heart disease and heart failure.

Here are some quick facts about Peripheral Artery Disease:
• Every 30 seconds someone in the world get an amputation.
• Over 50% of people with a diabetic foot have PAD
• PAD has mortality rate at 5 years higher than many well-known diseases such as Colon cancer, Hodgkin’s disease, Breast Cancer.
• The most common causes of Peripheral Artery Disease include obesity diabetes, smoking, high cholesterol, and high blood pressure.
• Only about 25% of the general population is aware of the disease.
• New and less invasive treatments that allow doctors to see in real time inside the blood vessels are now available.

Over the past decade, there have been significant advancements to improve outcomes for patients with PAD. It is now possible to treat many sufferers with minimally invasive revascularization, avoiding limb amputation, and potentially saving these patients’ lives. Additionally, many of these procedures are now performed in the outpatient office-based lab setting like those at The Vascular Care Group.
