An epidermal inclusion cyst, also known as an epidermoid cyst, is a common, harmless skin growth that forms when epidermal cells move deeper into the skin, creating a sac filled with the protein keratin. They can occur anywhere on the body at any age. They are best treated by surgical removal by a plastic surgeon, especially in cosmetically sensitive areas like the face. I carefully removed such a cyst on the upper eyelid in this four-year-old girl under local anesthesia only, leaving virtually no scar.
