DFSS’s Garfield Center will be open for warming overnight on Thurs, Jan 22, and over the weekend from 9 a.m. to 8 p.m. on Sat, Jan. 24 and Sun, Jan. 25. All DFSS Community Service Centers and Senior Centers will be open for warming on Fri, Jan. 23 for standard hours, while the Garfield Center will be open until 8 p.m.

Stay warm out there, Chicago! With temperatures dropping, the city has activated its network of warming centers to keep everyone safe. If you or someone you know needs a place to escape the cold, here is what you need to know:
📍 Where to Go
The City coordinates over 280 public facilities as warming centers. Key locations include:
* Garfield Community Service Center: 10 S. Kedzie Ave. (Open 24 hours for emergency shelter connection).
* DFSS Community Service Centers: Open Mon–Fri, 9 AM – 5 PM (Englewood, MLK, North Area, South Chicago, and Trina Davila).
* Public Libraries & Park Districts: Available during their standard operating hours.
* Police District Stations: Available 24/7 as a place of respite.
🛡️ Stay Safe: Cold Weather Tips
* Layer Up: Wear several layers of loose, warm clothing. Don’t forget a hat, gloves, and a scarf to protect your face.
* Check-In: Call 3-1-1 to request a well-being check for a neighbor or to find the warming center closest to you.
* Pet Safety: If it’s too cold for you, it’s too cold for them. Bring pets indoors.
* Heating Safety: Never use your oven or a grill to heat your home. If using a space heater, keep it at least 3 feet away from anything flammable.

The Markham, Maywood, and Skokie courthouses are open 24/7 beginning today through Monday at 4:30 p.m. for anyone who needs a warm, safe place in suburban Cook County.
