In our work to shift our attention from worry, it's helpful to pay keen attention to what we are focusing on.
Worry is an investment in a belief of "bad" things. Worry supports damaging beliefs such as, "the world is unsafe," "people are dangerous," "my kid is unable to make good choices," or whatever story line we have been repeating to ourselves--and investing in--at this point in our lives.
And, in our effort to release ourselves from the damaging grip of worry, here is the key: Know what you're investing in.
Know what action you are choosing to take. Worry is an action. It's watering your fears.
Love actually a real thing, with measurable healing effects. As is worry, with measurable damaging health effects.
Which is why our interest in shifting away from entrenched habits of worry is so important.
So, for your physical health and mental well-being, I invite you to recognize the qualities of love you feel when you know it is present. Perhaps you notice love when you're gardening. Or basking in the sun. Giving a child a hug. Or holding a friend's hand.
Consider the moments you've felt couched in love. How much of your day includes these qualities of love?
With this in mind, as you embark on your day, consider what you are watering. And ask yourself if this is what you want to grow.
