I had to share this! This is why I love this community so much
Dauphin Island Kid Probs:
Hurricane Helene has caused major storm surge on the Island. Many of the kids (and parents) ride bikes to school, but days like today it can be a little challenging getting around the flooding. Here’s why I absolutely adore our little school, parents, teachers and Principal Stacey Wilcox…
After dropping my son off at school, my husband John and I were headed home when we saw one little Dolphin take a deep plunge off his bike into the saltwater pooled on the side of the road. The little guy was completely submerged, soaking wet hair, clothes, backpack, shoes and socks. Poor kid! Thankfully Heather Goldman was on her own bike near the incident and ran to check on the little buddy. After parking, John also got out to check on the saturated second grader. All was well except a little embarrassment, and water dripping from his head, clothes and backpack.
Here’s the part why I love Dauphin Island Elementary School so much…
After Heather called the school office, Mrs. Wilcox immediately called the second grader’s parents. John and I took Bailey (Heather’s daughter) the remainder of the way to school, while Heather waited with the little Dolphin for his parents to arrive. After dropping off Bailey, John and I saw Mrs. Wilcox walking (in high heels) down Bienville Blvd to check on the little person. Yes, the school principal was briskly walking down the flooded road, in high heels, to check on one of her babies! John and I offered Mrs. Wilcox a ride to the scene, which she took, and upon arrival immediately ran over to the soaking wet baby Dolphin with deep concern. She grabs his bike for him, says a few kind words, makes a few more phone calls and sits with the little second grader until his parents arrived.
Our community is GOLD. Not only is Dauphin Island Elementary School one of the highest-rated academic schools in the state of Alabama, it also has one of the BEST principals and the kindest teachers who love our children like their own!
It takes a village, and I’m lucky to call my village Dauphin Island! Go Dolphins!🐬
PS- I’ve got to stop wearing pajamas for morning drop off. 😜
