Different positions act as medicine for your spine. The more you move during the day, the stronger and more flexible it will get. Try to get up and move around as much as you can, even if it’s just for a few minutes at a time. Maintaining the same position all day is a major contributor to back pain. If you’re extremely busy, just getting up and moving every 30 minutes or so will help, even if it’s just a couple stretches.

Sciatica refers to pain which occurs in the sciatic nerve – the nerve which runs from the lower back into each leg. Sciatica usually happens when the nerve is pinched, however this pain varies widely between people. Some may feel a mild tingling or ache, while others may find it difficult to even move.

By the age of 60, most people have some level of degenerative disc disease. Oftentimes this pain presents itself in one of three ways:
- Dry discs: these cause pain because they don't provide the padding between our vertebrae that we need.
- Cracked discs: these are often caused by minor injuries or everyday movements. Cracks that present near spinal nerves cause pain.
