Our team members and volunteers participated in a donation awareness event at the Iowa State Capitol yesterday.

In honor of National Donor Day, which falls on February 14 each year, partners from Iowa Lions Eye Bank, ImpactLife, , DeGowin Blood Center, NMDP (formerly Be the Match), and Student Organization for Donation Awareness () came together to engage our state legislators and the public in conversation about the importance of organ, tissue, eye, blood, and bone marrow donation.

The event began with a presentation featuring five speakers connected to the cause of donation, including the mom of an tissue and cornea donor, a double lung recipient, a bone marrow recipient, a blood donor, and cornea recipient.

"My son is transfusion dependent with a rare undiagnosed blood disorder. Thank you for giving him the gift of life. He needs blood every 3-4 weeks. He has had in total over 75 units of blood. Next summer he goes for a bone marrow transplant that will hopefully heal his body. We will forever be thankful and indebted to you because you chose to donate! Thank you!!!"
