Jerry Devlin

Jerome “Jerry” Devlin, 69, of Moline, departed from this life completely against his will on Thursday, March 12, 2026. Per his request cremation has been accorded and celebration of life will be held from 1-3pm on Saturday, April 4, 2026, at El Patron, Rock Island. Memorials may be made to Kings Harvest Pet Rescue.

Jerome Alan Ambrose Devlin was born in Davenport on September 23, 1956, the seventh of ten children of John “Jack” and Dorothy (Krukow) Devlin. He grew up in Davenport’s West End. Trying to keep up with his older brothers and sisters, he attended St. Alphonsus Grade School before graduating from Davenport West High School.

Jerry worked hard and lived in the West End until 1990 when he met his future wife Lisa Velez and took on the job that meant the most to him, Dad. Jerry stepped up as dad to Lisa’s two daughters Ashley and Nichole, and in 1992 became dad again to his son Adam. He attended all school events, even singing his own part in a recital once and coached their softball teams. He was a Diet Coke addict and passed his addiction on to his children.

An avid golfer, handyman, and professional “dad joke” comedian, Jerry spent his later years caring for his dog Lucy. He enjoyed wearing bowties and was a long-suffering fan of the Chicago Bears and Iowa Hawkeyes.

Prior to his retirement, he had been a maintenance supervisor for St. Anthony’s Nursing and Rehabilitation in Rock Island for 25 years. In earlier years he had worked in parts for Grainger.

To women everywhere, if you don’t think you’re pretty today, just know that Jerry did. You’re beautiful!

Those left to honor his memory include his children Nichole Velez of Rock Island, Ashley (James) Velez-Hagler of Dixon, IL, and Adam (Angel Mills) Devlin of Moline; chosen daughter Taylor (Josh) Swanson of Lynn Center, IL; grandchildren Ava, Peyton, Olivia, and Cameron; siblings Daniel (Deb) Devlin of Bella Vista, AR, Dennis (Olivia) Devlin, Marc (Therese) Devlin, Deanna (Mark) McFadden, all of Davenport, Matt Devlin, Jackie (Jeff) Shaw, all of Davenport, Jodi (Joe) Ineichen of Blue Grass; and a host of loving nieces, nephews, and extended family members.

He was preceded in death by his parents, brothers Tom and Jeff, granddaughter Elsie Swanson, and great nephew Justin Duex.

Gene Raymond Hellige

Gene Raymond Hellige, 74, of Davenport, Iowa, passed away on March 16, 2026, surrounded by the love of his family. Funeral services and Mass of Christian Burial for Gene will be celebrated at 11:00 a.m. Monday, March 23, 2026, at St. Paul the Apostle Catholic Church, Davenport. Visitation will be from 10:00 a.m. until the start of Mass. Burial will be in Davenport Memorial Park. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Café on Vine.

He was born on August 17, 1951, in Fort Madison, Iowa. Gene was the oldest of nine children, growing up with his many brothers and sister in a close-knit family that shaped his deep sense of loyalty and care for others.

He married the love of his life, Loren, and together they built a life centered on faith, family, and unwavering devotion. Gene was completely in awe of Loren, an artist whose creativity and spirit he deeply admired.

He dedicated his career as a civil engineer with the City of Davenport, where he took great pride in designing streets, bridges, and sewers, helping build and support the community he loved.

Gene was also one of the founders of the Mississippi Valley Blues Society and served as its president for several years, reflecting his love of music and connection to the community.

Above all, Gene was a devoted husband, father, and grandfather. He is survived by his beloved wife, Loren; his son, Ian Shaw (Ashley), and their daughters, Genevieve and Gwendolen; and his daughter, Helayna Roche (John Roche), and their children, Jack, Elsie, and Rhodes.

Gene found joy in the simple and meaningful things in life. He loved the outdoors, building fires, woodworking, mowing the lawn, and making trips to Menards. His happiest moments, however, were spent with his grandchildren. Whether building Legos, drawing, or doing anything they dreamed up, he met them with a huge smile and a full heart. He would drop anything to be with them.

He will be remembered as genuinely curious, gentle, honest, kind, loyal, and endlessly patient. Gene had a remarkable way of always seeing the good in others and approached life with a positivity that touched everyone who knew him.

His love for his family, his faith, and his steady, comforting presence will be deeply missed and forever cherished.

Jon S Bartlett

Jon Stuart Bartlett, 71, went home to walk in heaven on March 13, 2026, at Genesis East Hospital, following a long, brave, and stoic battle with Parkinson’s Disease.

Visitation will be held Sunday, March 22, from 2:00 p.m. to 4:00 p.m. at Halligan-McCabe-DeVries Funeral Home, Davenport, with a Rosary following at 4:00 p.m. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10:30 a.m. on Monday, March 23, at Our Lady of Lourdes Catholic Church, Bettendorf. Burial with military honors will follow at Rock Island National Cemetery. Memorials may be made to the family.

Jon was born on January 16, 1955, in Black River Falls, Wisconsin, to Donald and Barbara (Johnson) Bartlett. A lifelong learner with a brilliant mind, Jon graduated from the University of Minnesota Institute of Technology with Bachelor’s degrees in Mathematics and Physics. He continued his studies at the California Institute of Technology toward a PhD in Particle Physics; however, deciding he didn’t want to "learn a lot about a little," he chose to see the world and joined the United States Navy. While serving, he attended Naval Nuclear Power School, and later in life, earned his MBA from St. Ambrose University.

In 1993, Jon married the love of his life, Julie Haas, who blessed him with two daughters. Professionally, Jon worked for General Physics Corporation in Cedar Rapids before joining the Quad Cities Nuclear Power Station. He served in several roles there, retiring as the Operations Training Manager.

Jon was an avid reader and movie goer. He loved science fiction and fantasy. He shared his love of the Lord of the Rings with his wife and children. He could often be heard quoting lines from books and movies especially from The Princess Bride. Jon enjoyed watching Jeopardy, daily, and doing the Wall Street Journal Crossword Puzzle; always in ink.

Jon’s faith was a cornerstone of his life. He became a Catholic in 2010 and remained an active member of his parish and the Christian Experience Weekend (CEW) community. He and Julie found great joy in Bible studies, church activities, and playing "500" with their CEW friends. Despite the challenges of Parkinson’s, Jon and Julie traveled extensively, determined to see as much of the world as possible while he was able.

He will be remembered for his sharp intelligence, his humor, his deep faith, and his incredible ability to persevere through disability with grace and dignity.

Jon is survived by his wife, Julie; daughters, Elizabeth (partner Chris Carpenter) and Sarah (fiancé Lars Lofquist); siblings, Jenifer (Craig) Bryant, Joan (Dave) Edin, and Jason (Julia) Bartlett; and many cherished nieces, nephews, and extended family members. He was preceded in death by his parents and his mother’s late husband John Wetz.

Have fun storming the castle, Jon.

Daniel J. Wessel

Funeral services and Mass of Christian Burial for Daniel J. “Danny” Wessel, 88, of Davenport, will be held at 10:30 a.m. on Saturday, March 14, 2026, at Our Lady of Victory Catholic Church, Davenport. Burial will be in Mt. Calvary Cemetery, Davenport. Visitation will be 4-7 p.m. Friday at the Halligan-McCabe-DeVries Funeral Home, Davenport, with a prayer service at 4 p.m. to begin visitation. Additionally, visitation will be held at the church on Saturday from 9:30 a.m. until time of services.

Mr. Wessel passed away Tuesday, March 10, 2026 at the Kahl Home, Davenport.

Danny was born March 19, 1937, in Cedar Rapids, the second son of Melvin and Maxine Wessel. He graduated from Roosevelt High School in Cedar Rapids in 1955, where he was an outstanding athlete in basketball, football, and baseball. From there, he went on to Coe College, but football injuries ended his collegiate sports career.

On October 3, 1959, he married Janice Svoboda, who he had met when she was one week old. His mother took him next door to see the new baby. For 20 years, they were neighbors and then married.

After graduating from Coe, he began his government employee career, and he and Jan moved to Ohio, Utah, and Michigan, and then back to Iowa, thus having lived in all three four-letter states in alphabetical order.

During this time, three remarkable sons were born, who are his pride and joy, Jon, Timothy, and Christopher. He coached them all in Little League baseball, midget football, and junior high basketball, winning the Iowa Little League All-Star team title in 1973.

After returning to Iowa in 1963, he worked at the Rock Island Arsenal, where he rose through the ranks to Division Chief.

He spent a lot of time distributing Cubs propaganda and stickers, always with an excuse for their many losses. But finally in 2016, thanks to his niece Karen, he got to see his Cubbies in a World Series game, which they won.

After retiring, he spent 25 years volunteering for Genesis Hospice, Meals on Wheels, and St. Mary's Food Pantry, not to mention daily visits to the gym.

He was a very unique person. Devoted to his Cubs and Green Bay Packers, a loving husband, father, and loyal friend, we will not see his like again any time soon.

He was predeceased by his parents, brother David, and sister-in-law Kathy.

He is survived by wife Jan; sons Jon (Suzy) Wessel, Timothy (Lisa) Wessel, and Chris Wessel; grandchildren Molly (Robbie) Andrews, Mitchell McIntire, Jessica (Charles) Jones, Teryn (Alton) Lynum, Danica Wessel, Matthew (Megan) Wessel, and McKenzie Wessel; eight great-grandchildren; siblings John (Carol) Wessel, Dennis (Sandy) Wessel, Mary (Bill) Keel, and Jeff (Marla) Wessel.

Memorials may be made to the Kahl Home or Genesis Hospice. The family would like to extend a special thank you to all the staff at the Kahl Home and Genesis Hospice for the care and support given to Danny.
