When Should You See an Occupational Therapist?
Most people don’t realize how life-changing occupational therapy can be until they need it. OTs help people stay independent, confident, and capable in their daily routines, but how do you know when it’s time to reach out?
Here are some signs an OT could help:
• Daily tasks feel harder than they used to: things like dressing, cooking, writing, or managing your schedule are becoming challenging.
• You’re recovering from an injury, surgery, or illness: an OT can help you regain strength, coordination, and confidence so you can get back to your routines safely.
• Your child is struggling with developmental skills: this might include handwriting, sensory processing, motor skills, or social participation.
• You want to make your home safer or more accessible: OTs can recommend simple modifications and tools that make a big difference.
• Age-related changes are affecting independence: from balance issues to memory changes, OTs support aging adults in staying active and safe.
• Work tasks are causing pain or stress: an OT can help with ergonomics, posture, and strategies to prevent injury.
Bottom line: If something in your daily life feels harder, painful, or overwhelming, an occupational therapist can help you find practical solutions that fit your life.
