💜World Maternal Mental Health Day shines a light on the emotional challenges many women face during pregnancy and after birth, challenges that too often go unseen and unspoken.
Despite growing awareness, stigma around mental health still lingers, especially during a time when new moms are told they should feel nothing but joy. The reality is different. Experts recognize perinatal mental health conditions as the most common complication of childbirth, affecting 1 in 5 women with depression or anxiety during or after pregnancy.
And it’s not just the “baby blues.” Some women experience postpartum depression, anxiety, obsessive compulsive disorder, trauma related conditions, bipolar disorder, or even psychosis. Too many go without the care and support they need.
If you or someone you love is struggling, help is available. Talk to your prenatal provider or reach out to Postpartum Support International. You can call or text “Help” to 1-800-944-4773.
You don’t have to go through this alone. If you have questions or concerns, call us at 563.355.1853.
