We’d like to take an opportunity to congratulate one of our own today, one of our owners, Zach Johnson. Over the weekend Zach received the 2026 Schuyler Knights of Columbus, Knight of the Year award! Here is what the Knights had to say about him at their banquet!

Zach moved to Schuyler in 2016 and quickly became one of the Knight's most active members. He is a member of Schuyler Sertoma, the Board of Directors for the Hospital Foundation, CASA, the Schuyler Chamber of Commerce, and the Colfax Theater. Zach coordinates a crew of volunteers who put on special movies for school children, allowing hundreds of children to attend the movie theater each year.

He plays in the Schuyler Golf League and co-chair’s their Fall Frenzy, the annual Schuyler Golf Course fundraiser. He is the President and "Commanding Officer" of the Schuyler Food and Toy Corporation where he coordinates an army of volunteers. Under his leadership, in the last three years, Food and Toy has provided over 500 local children food, coats, warm clothing, and shoes during the holiday season.

He is a member of the Colfax County Veterans Memorial Steering Committee, helped with bingo at the Schuyler Senior Center, helps at the annual FFA pancake feed, and helps with street dances for events like Cinco de Schuyler and the Labor Day dance. He helps at the KC Council, coordinates the KC Soccer Challenge, is the Youth Committee Director, handles our page, and he can often be heard singing at church.

All in addition to working full time with his business partner and staying active with their businesses in Schuyler and David City!

Today on National Funeral Director and Mortician Recognition Day, we are grateful for the opportunity to serve families in our communities.

Being a funeral director is more than a profession to us — it’s a calling. Each day we have the privilege of helping families honor the lives of their loved ones, preserve meaningful memories, and find comfort during some of life’s most difficult moments.

Thank you to the families who put their trust in us to walk alongside them during these important times. Serving those around us is truly an honor.
