We’re therapists and we teach a method.

But behind it all, we’re people too, with rhythms, doubts, laughter, and healing in progress.

The method matters. But *who* holds *it* matters even more.

Tell us in one word, who is the real you behind the method? 👇

Gracy’s story is one of compassion, creativity, and faith in action. For over 15 years, she’s served children, families, and communities around the world — from China to Thailand, and now back home in Georgia.

She’s a trauma-informed counselor, art therapy practitioner, and international humanitarian. But more than titles, Gracy carries a heart to see and honor the worth of each person, bringing hope and healing wherever God leads her.

In this episode, she shares about her journey — from missionary service overseas, to using art, animals, and creative expression to walk alongside those navigating trauma and life transitions.

Listen now to hear how her faith, creativity, and resilience are shaping lives and pointing to restoration in Christ.

Everyone wants healing to look like a straight line: quick, predictable, and free of discomfort.

But here’s the truth: healing rarely looks like progress, especially from the inside!

It’s more like a spiral: revisiting pain, untangling patterns, and building new pathways slowly, through safety and relationship.

And that’s where the therapist comes in. Not to rush the process. Not to fix everything.

But to *hold space* for the slow, deep work that actually lasts. Because healing isn’t about speed, it’s about direction.

Neuroscience keeps showing us what many therapists already sense in practice: the brain isn’t just an organ of thought, it’s wired for relationship.

That’s why healing can’t be reduced to insight or self-awareness alone.

The Life Model restores not just minds but nervous systems through safe, attuned, and joyful connection.

What practices have helped you rewire connection in your own journey? 🧠

New Podcast out!

Michele has a MS in Professional Counseling and additional certification in the treatment of Complex PTSD. Michele is passionate about trauma recovery and holistic healing. She has extensive training in a variety of trauma treatment modalities. She is skilled in Brainspotting, Parts Work ( IFS) T.R.I.P, and Energy Psychology techniques such as HeartMath. Michele believes in the innate resilience of the human body and is dedicated to helping clients find hope and transformation. She brings a nurturing personalized approach to every session. Michele has been married for more than 30 years, is a mom to six, and enjoys spending time outdoors.

Michele and I met when I heard about her practice in South Carolina called the Joy Center. I met her partner, Dave, at a Life Model training in 2017 and have followed what they are doing there at the Joy Center ever since. We shared some phone calls just to hear about one another’s lives…our personal lives and family lives, how we can into this profession, and how we were introduced to the Life Model and how we implement it in our personal and professional lives. We also discovered that we both treat dissociation as a therapeutic specialty approach! I just knew Michele would be an interesting interview for our Therapists Growing Therapists series so I asked her and she agreed! While we have never met in person yet, you will see from this interview that a sincerely joyful connection has been made between us. Michele is a gem, and anyone who listens in to this episode, will experience insight into therapeutic truths as well as the joy of knowing this wonderful person!

We don’t need more diagnostic labels. We need more therapists who are willing to expand their perspective.

The Life Model invites us to hold complexity without fear, to stay present with what we don’t fully understand. To lead with curiosity, not correction.

Because brilliance doesn’t always look like balance. And healing doesn’t always look like resolution. 🤯💡☝🏻

The Life Model teaches us: you don’t change behavior by force, you change the beliefs underneath it. 💡

Because what we believe about ourselves shapes how we heal, relate, and show up.

And real transformation? It begins where new beliefs take root.

We believe transformation doesn’t happen only in the patient's chair, it happens in the life of the therapist as well.

That’s why every lesson we teach is more than a method. It’s an invitation. To reconnect. To realign with joy. To let go of performance and step into purpose.

Because when therapists are seen, equipped, and emotionally safe, they don’t just apply a model, they embody healing. 🤍

If this resonates with you, you’re not alone. This is the kind of space we’re building, and we’d love to have you with us.

Not every model transforms. Some models reorganize people, others manage, and a few truly heal.

Before you adopt a framework that promises change, ask yourself:

1. Does this model address both behavior and identity?

Lasting transformation isn’t about controlling symptoms. It’s about restoring who the client is becoming, not just what they’re doing.

2. Does it work with the brain’s relational design?

The brain is wired for healing through connection. Models that ignore attachment, joy, or co-regulation will always fall short.

3. Has it shaped the therapist first?

If a model hasn’t impacted your own maturity, presence, or joy…It will feel more like a script than a living process.

At CFT, we believe the therapist’s formation is the first layer of any transformational process. Because the most powerful tool in the room isn’t the method. It’s the person who dares to live what they teach!

In many therapeutic models, emotional maturity is vague — often associated with self-control, detachment, or productivity.

But the Life Model offers a more integrated and grounded perspective. Here’s how we define emotional maturity:

🔎 Maturity is relational, not just internal.
You’re not emotionally mature because you avoid conflict — you’re mature when you can stay connected through it.

🔎 Maturity isn’t static; it’s developmental.
The Life Model outlines stages of maturity: infant, child, adult, parent, elder.
You don’t skip steps — and if certain needs weren’t met in earlier stages, the brain will continue to seek repair.

🔎 Maturity is shaped by joy, not fear.
When joy is missing, the brain defaults to survival mode. Real growth happens in environments where relational joy is present and consistent.

In the Life Model, maturity is the outcome of healing — not the absence of emotion. It’s about becoming someone others can safely connect to, even under pressure.

Now let’s hear from you:
What has emotional maturity looked like in your personal or clinical journey?

Let’s discuss in the comments 👇

In a diverse world, cultural sensitivity in therapy isn’t optional — it’s foundational.💡✍🏻

Save this post so you can read it later. As therapists, our role is not just to apply techniques, but to see the whole person in front of us. Their background, beliefs, language, history it all matter.

The Life Model teaches us that healing requires more than insight. It requires relational safety, and safety begins when people feel understood **in their full context.

That’s why this isn’t just a theoretical value. It’s a practical commitment.

Want to bring a culturally-aware, neuroscience-based approach to your practice? 📚
