These statistics are drastically different, but why? Research tells us that lack of access to culturally competent breastfeeding support, socioeconomic factors, historical influences, and systemic racism & discrimination are all contributing factors to breastfeeding duration disparities. Even training materials, advertisements, marketing, etc. often depicts just white women breastfeeding. Representation matters, and matters! We need to be aware if we want to see things change and who doesn't want ALL mamas to feel supported and empowered to make the best decisions for their little ones?! We certainly do, and we'll continue working hard to be part of the solution ๐Ÿ’œ

Happy !!
We believe ALL moms deserve to have the support they need to reach their breastfeeding goals. In the black community, women often donโ€™t get that kind of support - whether itโ€™s from their doctors, partners, or community helpers. We hope we can be one small part of helping moms overcome obstacles and enjoy breastfeeding their little ones. ๐Ÿ’•

It's easy to overlook the significant health benefits breastfeeding offers babies. Breastfeeding can literally save lives!! It's also truly astonishing that only about 20% of countries integrate infant and young child feeding into the curriculum for doctors and nurses. Even in the United States, many, maybe even most, infant and child healthcare professionals have very limited knowledge on how to guide mothers who choose to breastfeed.

While no mother should ever be judged for her choice to use formula, she also shouldn't be pressured into it due to misleading advertising, a lack of access to breastfeeding support, or doctors and nurses who are inadequately educated in lactation. Did you know that low-income and marginalized communities are often targeted with formula marketing campaigns? Or that there are allegations formula companies provide financial incentives to doctors and healthcare providers to promote their product? Collectively, we have to make a stand that this is not ok and seek out ways to change these practices.

This is precisely what World Breastfeeding Week aims to highlight this year: prioritizing babies over profits, training and empowering healthcare workers, and relentlessly pursuing the goal of ensuring everyone has the support they desire and need ๐Ÿฉต

Reposting from ๐Ÿซถ

We could not agree more with this recommendation. Support is necessary for breastfeeding concerns, like milk supply, low weight gain, breast/nipple pain, etc. But support is also incredibly helpful before mom goes back to work and needs pumping & bottlefeeding guidance, when baby is ready to start trying solids, and when it's time to wean. A lactation consultant can provide solutions that go beyond the physical component of breastfeeding, its also mental, emotional, and often spiritual support as well.

Our goal is to support a families breastfeeding journey from pregnancy through weaning - whatever duration that may be. Moms deserve to have access to knowledgeable & compassionate providers!

It's World Breastfeeding Week! A week every year to celebrate the work that's been done in supporting moms and babies with breastfeeding, but also to recognize the areas that need further growth and attention. This year, the goal is to highlight the efforts that are needed to ensure women and babies get skilled and sustained support, starting at pregnancy and all the way through early childhood. We love this quote from [World Health Organization] "Every mother should have access to the support & information she needs to breastfeed for as long as she wishes to do so" ๐Ÿ’œ Here's to a week of educating, engaging, supporting, and investing!

Last up for our baby registry recommendations: bottlefeeding supplies and gut health (for mom AND baby!):

We highly recommend the 5oz slow flow bottles, along with their NaturalWaveยฉ๏ธ bottle ni***es which can fit on Avent glass bottles or Evenflo Balance bottles.

Don't sleep on adding probiotics to your registry- Womenโ€™s Probiotic reduces the risk of mastitis and plugged ducts (sign us up!!) and giving Infant Probiotic for one month reduces the risk of colic ๐Ÿคฏ๐Ÿ™Œ

Rounding things out: bottle brushes, coolers, and baskets. Can you live without these? Maybe, but they sure do make life easier!

Next up in our 'Building Your Baby Registry' series: nursing supplies! Breastfeeding may be natural, but it is not always easy (here's looking at you leaky breasts and cracked ni***es ๐Ÿ‘€), so having the right products to support a pain-free, enjoyable experience is a MUST. We'd add a lactation consultant to this list, too, but so far, we haven't figured out a way to add ourselves to Amazon ๐Ÿ˜œ Check out our article for more details!

We are regularly asked by expecting parents for recommendations on items to add to their baby registry, so our owner, Carolyn, decided to write an article with all of our favorite must-haves, specifically geared towards breastfeeding mamas! There are a LOT of opinions and options out there when it comes to baby products. But what do you and baby really need? Hint: It's probably a lot less than you think!

To start things off, check out some of our favorite infant gear and furniture items:

- a baby carrier, we love both a structured carrier, like , , or , and a soft carrier wrap like
- a bedside bassinet with a drop-down side, like Cloud Baby
- a flat bottomed lounger, like
- tummy time mat, we love the play gym by and the piano mat

Next up: nursing supplies!

New study finds around 15% of triple negative breast cancer diagnosis could be avoided by breastfeeding at least 6 months. Everyone knows breastmilk is good for babies but breastfeeding is also REALLY good for moms!

Policy changes supporting breastfeeding may address structural barriers and lower overall incidence and racial disparities surrounding TNBC in the US.
