Is life getting to be a bit much? Instead of bottling up your feelings, consider letting them out with a good cry. It turns out that crying is good for you. Studies show that repressing your feelings is linked to a poor immune system, hypertension, cardiovascular disease, and poor mental health. But crying releases oxytocin and endogenous opioids. These endorphins help to relieve your physical and emotional pain. That’s why having a good cry will actually make you feel better. This works equally well for men and women! 😉

Did you know that people who have better dental health, also tend to be healthier overall? There's an interesting connection. When you practice good dental hygiene, you're holding off the bacteria that causes gum disease and tooth decay. Additionally, you're also keeping that bacteria from causing inflammation and stressing your immune system.

Some research shows that this dental bacteria may be the same bacteria that causes sickness and disease in your body. So, your good dental practices might be protecting your overall health in addition to your teeth and gums.

Poor oral health is associated with cardiovascular disease, endocarditis, pneumonia, and complications in pregnancy.

So take care of your mouth. Brush and floss regularly, visit your dentist for checkups, and limit sugary foods and drinks. 😬

So much has been accomplished in breast cancer research, but there's still so much more to do. Today we recognize the research and do what we can to raise money for it. Hopefully, you're wearing pink today to raise funds for this great work.

3.8 million women in the U.S. have a history of breast cancer.
530 men are estimated to die from breast cancer this year.
30% of newly diagnosed cancers in women this year will be breast cancer.
85% of breast cancer occurs in women with no family history of it.

Let's raise money for research, so one day we'll never see this cancer again!

Our feet undergo a lot of stress and pressure, and their care is often low on our list of priorities. Remember to love your feet by checking them regularly for damage and wearing supportive footwear. Also, keep your feet clean and dry. Moisturize them regularly and file down hard skin with a pumice stone. Love your feet!

We hear about the dangers of inflammation all the time, but what exactly is inflammation? Inflammation is your body's process of protecting you from harm, like infections, toxins, and injuries. To heal and protect you, your body releases chemicals to trigger an immune response. This is good, unless it becomes chronic. Chronic inflammation is when your body thinks it's always under attack, even when it isn't. This can occur because of autoimmune diseases, untreated acute inflammation, and exposure to toxins. Additionally, lifestyle choices can also be a cause, like poor diet, high BMI, smoking, and excessive consumption of alcohol.

Chronic inflammation can lead to heart disease, Alzheimer's Disease, cancer, asthma, types of arthritis, and diabetes.

The common cold is the world's most widespread infectious disease. But why can't we get rid of it? The Rhinovirus is just one of hundreds of viruses responsible for the common cold. The issue is, Rhinovirus has up to 160 different strains. So, finding a cure isn't about combating one thing, it's about solving a multitude! It's very difficult to create a vaccine that works against 160 strains at once. But research for a cure continues.

Our Story

In 2007, two aspiring physicians Dr. Ajjan and Dr. Giordano worked as hospitalists at Lake Norman Regional Medical Center. At the time, the group they worked for was short-staffed and the two physicians were working more than 20 days per 28 cycle to cover the hospital needs every month. One day in February 2010, they came up with an innovative idea to start their own hospitalist group to offer flexible, dynamic, and innovative programming. They wanted to create a balance for physicians that join the group so they can maintain life-work balance. They both recognized the importance and need for such a group in their local market. They approached several hospitals in the area and received their first contract at Iredell Memorial Hospital in November 2010 with a start date of January 15, 2011. That day marks the beginning of an amazing journey of ups and downs. A journey that despite all its challenges allowed both physicians to grow personally and professionally. The group grew from two physicians at one medical facility in November 2010 to 20 medical providers at Twelve medical facilities today. The medical facilities are Iredell Memorial Hospital, Hospital-Based Skilled Nursing Facility at Iredell Memorial Hospital, Iredell Health System Care Transition Clinic, Iredell Wound Care & Hyperbaric Center, Brian Center Statesville, Autumn Care of Statesville, Maple Leaf Statesville, Rosewood Assisted Living Facility, Peak Resources Cherryville, Peak Resources Gastonia, Peak Resources Shelby, and Cleveland Pines Nursing Center in Shelby.

On October, 2014 Dr. Giordano sold his shares in OptiMed to Dr. Ajjan in order to pursue his dream in aesthetic medicine . Dr. Ajjan’s passion has always been improving hospitalists services for all his business partners. Over the past ten years, Dr. Ajjan has built clinical and managerial experience in hospitalists management and care that gives him the ability to provide quality service with attention to exceptional care. His five-year strategic plan is to continue to grow the operations of OptiMed Hospitalists and further align its growth with the values and mission of the company. His personal commitment to his business partners and medical providers is to build a company that they are all proud to be part of.
