Name one thing that runs in your family that you’re proud of.
Name one thing that’s happened painfully in your family that’s impacted at least 3 generations.

You are not responsible for your ancestors' actions, but you are responsible for the legacy you leave for your children.

There’s something I’ve been noticing more and more. People are angry at their ancestors.

Angry at the wars.
Angry at lies.
Angry at the injustices and imbalance.
Angry at the systems that were built long before they were born.

While the anger often comes from a place of compassion and conscience, there’s something we don’t talk about enough.

When you hate your ancestors, you are hating yourself, your very being, and in many cases, your current family as well.

You are rejecting the genetic, cultural, and energetic lineage that made your existence possible.

There is NO culture on Earth that is all good or all bad. And it can't make YOU all good or all bad. When we allow this judgment to become the lens through which we see the world and ourselves, it often causes more harm than good.

That is not healing.
That is an internal war.

While the anger often comes from a place of compassion and conscience, there’s something we don’t talk about enough. When you hate your ancestors, you are hating the very cells that formed you. You are rejecting the genetic, cultural, and energetic lineage that made your existence possible.

That is not healing.
That is an internal war.

We all have branches of the family tree that we are ashamed of and branches we are proud of.

Human history is messy. Every culture. Every nation. Every tribe. Across continents and centuries, there have been moments of brilliance and moments of brutality. No lineage is spotless. None.
But no lineage is purely monstrous either.
In every family tree, there were builders. Protectors. Mothers who sacrificed. Fathers who worked themselves to the bone. Healers. Farmers. Artists. Spiritual seekers. Quiet, everyday people who simply tried to survive and keep their children safe. There were also those who made harmful choices. Those who hurt others. Those who carried trauma forward instead of transforming it.

Both are true.
The danger is in the broad brush approch. When we say, “All of them were bad,” we disconnect from the goodness that also runs through us. We inherit both the wounds and the wisdom. I am not saying to pretend the past didn’t happen. But healing isn’t romanticizing it either.

Healing says:
I see what was harmful.
I refuse to repeat it. But I won't bear the weight of it either. I will not reject myself in the process.
We be mindful of judging yesterday with today’s yardstick and calling that enlightenment or progress even. We evolve because of yesterday. Many ancestors believed they were building something meaningful for future generations. Some were wrong. Some were limited. Some were products of trauma; they never had the tools to process. And some had no idea that what they were building was with limited or flawed knowledge.

Today, we have more awareness, more information, and deeper knowledge. We know better in many areas of parenting, psychology, health, science, community, and so much more. So we do better. That’s growth.

Generational healing is not about bypassing pain. It’s about metabolizing it. It's about seeing it. It may mean breaking cycles. It may mean ending patterns that have run for centuries. But it is not about carrying hatred in your bloodstream. Hating yourself and even future generations as "bad" just by existing. When you heal your lineage, you are not excusing harm. You are transforming it. Imagine what happens when enough of us stop projecting shame backward and instead choose responsibility forward. Imagine families where the trauma stops here. Imagine children who inherit wisdom instead of unresolved anger. Imagine looking at your family tree and saying, “I will carry the love forward. I will transmute the rest.” That is power.

Maya Angelou

“Do the best you can until you know better. Then when you know better, do better.”

If you feel called to explore this deeper, our Generational Healing Workshop is a guided journey into identifying inherited patterns, honoring the strength in your lineage, and consciously releasing what no longer serves you.

We don’t deny history.
We don’t drown in it.
We work with it.

Because when you heal your roots, you strengthen your future as well as future generations.

And that's how we change the world.

When you are ready and if you would like, I am always here to support you in this journey. This can be individually or in group work. Our new group coaching begins on March 3rd. I hope you will join us.
