In Sand tray therapy children and adults alike create a miniature representation of their world and use miniatures to represent people, events, and places that hold special significance to them. Therapists can be non-directive in the process, allowing the client to lead what type of scene they create in the sand, or directive, providing prompts for the client to follow that include ways in which they might solve problems occurring in their lives.

By taking a more objective view of their life in the sand, clients are encouraged to problem solve how they might be able to change things within their life and are empowered to make such changes

Sand tray therapy provides a way for an individual to communicate nonverbally in counseling through the use of sand and miniatures. The process is non-threatening, emotionally safe and free of rules.

Being diagnosed with ADHD later in life can be a profoundly emotional experience. On the one hand, this diagnosis explains a lifetime of challenges that once felt like personal failings—things like difficulty staying organized, impulsivity, restlessness, or inconsistent focus. On the other hand, you now realize you didn’t really know yourself that well after all. Understanding that you are neurodivergent brings validation, clarity, and often grief for the years spent undiagnosed or misunderstood. What is Play Therapy?
Play therapy refers to a large number of treatment methods, all applying the therapeutic benefits of play. Play therapy helps children to address and resolve their own problems and builds on the natural way that children learn about themselves and their relationships in the world around them.

APT defines play therapy as the “systematic use of a theoretical model to establish an interpersonal process wherein trained play therapists use the therapeutic powers of play to help clients prevent or resolve psychosocial difficulties and achieve optimal growth and development.”
