“If you only knew the gift God has for you..” -Jesus. (John 4:10a)
Maybe you’re like me and this hurting woman Jesus spoke to at a well one day, sometimes all we can see is the pain. The lens of our life zooms in on where it hurts most, where it’s most wrong. And I wonder, in all our magnification of that distorted pain, what are we missing? How much goes unseen or not enjoyed? What gift is our Creator trying to give us who stumble in the dark? How is He to get our attention? To nudge and shift our perspective just a little to see glimpses of His love and yes, purposes prevailing even with or despite the pain?
It’s not that suffering is not real and pain-filled. Pain, as we all know by heart, is a very real reality on this side of heaven. It’s blinding, scary and confusing. We often get lost in the lens of its distorted narrative and as a means of trying to keep ourselves safe and secure, we zoom in. Zoom in on perceived threats, assumed harm, and we drowned there in the darkness of our own imagination. All of us blind. All of us in need of real true light and sight. Dear Jesus please help us!
Something I’ve told my youngest daughter, her whole life is that Love is everywhere! And that Love always wins in the end. This Christmas, my prayer for everyone is that we will zoom out enough from our own pain, and all the unjust things and see the beauty of our Creator. See God, Love Himself. The One who loves you too much to ever leave you alone.
This Christmas let’s open our eyes and hearts to see our Savior who came and who still comes for us. He comes to rescue and save all of us who are blind, lost, broken, wounded and confused. To reveal a love that lights the way home. A Love that never fails, weakens or lets go of you!
So hold on, zoom out and let Love Himself give you eyes to really see.
See, and enJOY what’s been unseen, but never withheld.
Love always wins!
Merry Christmas all!!
