I came across this tree while walking along the river and couldn’t stop staring at its roots. It reminded me so much of labor—how even the strongest need deep support to stand tall. As a midwife, I can’t help but see the world through the lens of birth.

Midwives are there to support, reassure, and safeguard the space so families can experience birth together. Sometimes the most important thing we do is simply watch, listen, and be present.
Birth isn’t about the provider. It’s about the family.
Find someone who remembers that and makes it about you, not them. 🤍

I had a little too much fun with pumpkin carving this year.
I’m not even sure if that mess down there is baby’s or mom’s. 😂
But I do know that there was a a bit too much pressure getting the baby pumpkin out, resulting in a tear and a hotdog turd involved. 🤣🎃

THIS SUNDAY I will be at Babies & Bumps Nashville for their expo! I am so excited to be attending as their goals of educating families aligns so beautifully with mine.

I will be teaching “Pain Management Options for Labor” at 1:45pm and a demo for “Comfort Measures in Labor” at 12pm. Come by the MamaSprout booth and say hi!!

There will be so many educational opportunities for families to connect with providers and resources in their area.

Labor is hard work—your body is running a marathon! Staying nourished and hydrated helps contractions stay effective, keeps your energy steady, and supports your baby’s journey earthside.
💧 Sip water and a low/no sugar electrolyte drink regularly.
🥑 Snack on easy-to-swallow foods like fruit, broth, yogurt, honey sticks, oatmeal or smoothies.
🍯 Trust your body—you’ll know what you need.
Outdated rules about “no food or drink” in labor aren’t supported by current evidence. Your body works best when it’s supported—and that means fuel.
🌿 Ask your provider about eating and drinking in labor as part of your physiologic birth.
