I work with children, ages 5 and older, and their families with a variety of presenting problems, including development delays and trauma, as well as grief and loss because of the death of a parent, sibling, friend or another significant person in their lives.

For a number of years my artwork was displayed in the American Art Therapy Association National Headquarters in the Washington DC / Maryland area . Recently the national organization gave up their brick and mortar office and went to a virtual format. Thank you Cynthia J Young and staff for safely returning my art. It arrived today and will find a space here at home.

Always ask the artist first.

Our six-year-old handed us a note. His teacher had called my wife and I in for an emergency meeting. We asked our son if he had any idea why, and he said, "She didn't like a drawing I did."
We went in the next day.
His teacher pulled the drawing below out and said, "I asked him to draw his familv and he drew this. Would you mind explaining?"
"Not at all." my wife said. "Family vacation. Snorkelling off the Bahamas. 🤣🤣🤣

Independent Story Telling

We had our first session together after summer vacation last night , August 14, 2009. During the session Dani told his first independent story about one of his drawings. without any continuous prompting. Both his mother and I were thrilled. She asked for a copy of this brief video to send to relatives and asked that I share it with you too. I share these unedited videos with you because my work with Dani is unique in that it has been consistent and over a number of years and it may lend itself to a qualitative research article in the future that Dani's mother has agreed to co-author. There are no definitive answers for the treatment of children diagnosed with autism... but it appears that art therapy may be one of the treatments of choice for some of these children Note: Dani's parents asked that I use his real name
