Yippee!! Lily bulbs are on their way! 📦
This time last year I planted lilies as an experiment: Will they grow? Will people buy them? To my delight and that of many others, Yes! And YES!!
So I am growing more lilies.
I’ll be offering a limited Lily Club membership in 2026 — keep following for news about it. Or message me now to reserve your spot. 💐🌸

This weekend was all about hustling. Ahead of the walls of rain and heavy winds in the forecast I wanted to get dahlia tubers out of the ground, rudbeckia plugs into the ground, and all sorts of useful things that could blow away into safer places. Whew! So how can I dry and store the dahlia tubers? Oh yes, those lovely produce crates from the super Post Harvest Handling course this summer! So grateful to WVU Extension and Eastern Ag Innovation for the resources and support!

25F as I had my morning coffee.
I knew it was coming.
So I stretched out the frost cloth, did an evening harvest, and arranged flowers as the sun set.

These may be my favorite sunflowers yet. Not just because I love all the variation in shape, size and color. It’s because these beauties are blooming a month after frosty nights. Their buds were just starting to form then and the cold did some damage. Yet they kept growing. These sunflowers are not “perfect”, in fact some of them are downright wonky. I admire them for that. Next time I have a setback, I’ll think of them reaching for the sun, welcoming the bees and being true to themselves. That’s mountain grown!

It’s autumn. It’s hunting season. We’ve got our orange on. As do the flowers!

A few weeks ago, as clear cool nights fell, I covered as much as I could: “Let’s try, give them a chance. If you can help them get through this cold dip, they may bloom into October.”
Since those frosts, I’ve been watching and waiting to see if my efforts were worth it.
Today, after 2 inches of rain and the sun pushing us back near 80F, the answer is Yes! There are bees, butterflies and blooms all around.
That’s mountain grown!
