Description of Workshop

With individuals age 65 or above comprising a greater proportion of the population than ever before, dementia diagnosis and care have become areas of increased focus for healthcare providers. Whether conducting neuropsychological evaluations to assist in differential diagnosis and treatment planning, providing psychotherapy to family members and caregivers, or providing consultation to other health professionals regarding management of dementia related behavioral symptoms, psychologists and other mental health providers can play an important role in the delivery of services to individuals with dementia and their families. This workshop will review key topics pertaining to dementia related care, including methods for diagnosis, neuropsychological test profiles for common etiologies of dementia, common behavioral and emotional/behavioral symptoms of dementia, and current available pharmacological and behavioral interventions. Recent research pertaining to these topics will be discussed and related to common practices utilized by health service providers who work with older adults.

Where do Psychologists Fit In?

June 24, 2016

A 3 hour presentation by Corey E. Miller, Ph.D.

Sponsored by the Dayton Area Psychological Association

"Every two days we create as much data as was created from the dawn of time until 2003." –Eric Schmidt, CEO of Google

Target uses data to determine if a customer is pregnant, UPS uses data to predict and avoid traffic, Amazon uses data to generate recommendations to sell additional products, professional sports teams use it to choose players and decide on strategy, political candidates use it to target voters, and physicians are recommending data be collected to determine if a patient has depression. Big Data is being analyzed by Computer Scientists, Engineers, and Economists, but Psychologists aren’t very involved with Big Data, but should be.
