Meet Toria Thornton
Birth & Postpartum Doula | Artist | Advocate for Mothers

Hello, I’m Toria Thornton—a Cleveland native now rooted in the Dayton area. My journey into birth work began with a love for art, feminist theory, and the powerful intersections of gender that I explored while attending Wright State University. I followed my passion and earned a B.A. in Women, Gender, and Sexuality Studies in 2019, and I’ve been painting and creating ever since. Over time, I realized this path was bigger than art—it was a calling to support, uplift, and advocate for birthing people and new mothers. I believe my purpose didn’t just come from experience—my purpose found me. As a trained birth and postpartum doula, I offer compassionate, personalized care for both you and your baby. Whether you're preparing for birth, navigating postpartum, or simply need someone to walk alongside you—I’m here to support you with open hands and a full heart. I bring my passion for education, advocacy, and creative healing into every client relationship. I provide evidence-based resources, emotional support, and a nonjudgmental space where your voice is heard and your choices are respected. Because while birth isn't always easy—you shouldn't have to face it alone. I'm here to help you feel informed, empowered, and held every step of the way.

✨️The More You Know: Doula Edition✨️

As the year comes to a close, this is your gentle reminder to pause. Take a breath. Unclench your shoulders. Soften your jaw. 🌿

The holidays can be full, loud, emotional, and heavy especially for parents, expecting families, and anyone holding a lot right now. You’re allowed to slow down. You’re allowed to rest. You’re allowed to breathe.

Take three deep breaths with me today and save this for when things feel overwhelming.❤️

I’ll see you in the new year. Rested, grounded, and ready. ☺️

✨ The More You Know: Doula Edition ✨

Pregnancy and postpartum aren’t just about physical changes. They shift your emotions, your energy, and how you see yourself.

There’s no “right” way to feel. Some days are light, some are heavy, and both deserve space. 🌿

Support isn’t only for birth; it’s for you, your mind, your heart, and your healing.

Whether it’s a doula, a therapist, or a trusted friend. Reaching out is strength, not weakness. 💜

Transparency moment❗️

My background in Women Studies started my journey, but my own pregnancy loss has shaped me as doula. Honestly, I didn't know if I was going to come back from my own loss. Through heartbreak, grieving and healing. I found myself wanting to continue because black women need doulas.

I get told a lot about how I am meant to do this work. Each day, I believe it more and more. ( Side note: even in my birth chart and taking a personality test screams advocate) I don't give myself enough credit.

I'm on the path that's meant for me. It's not only a passion but my purpose. I am beyond grateful for supporting moms but families in a vulnerable but beautiful part of life.

Celebrating 10 births this year has been a wonderful journey. I am so proud of the families I've supported so far. Cheers to the many more families and stories I get to be a part of 💜

For new doulas, my biggest piece of advice is: find your community. Having a supportive space makes all the difference, especially on the days that feel hard.

I'm celebrating my 10th birth this year 💜

Each family I’ve supported has added something meaningful to my journey as a doula. I am forever grateful 🙏🏾

Reaching 10 feels like a milestone worth celebrating and honoring. To honor this milestone, I created my birth cup a simple way to hold the stories and moments I’ll never forget.

Celebrating 10 births this year 💜

My birth cup is a small way to honor the families I’ve supported. I've had a great year being a doula, and it's been an honor to be a part of so many stories.

Here’s to more moments of strength, connection, and new beginnings. CHEERS! 😊

If you’re a parent or birth worker. How do you honor the meaningful moments from your journey?

Movement and position changes can make a big difference during birth. 🌿

Upright, side-lying, hands-and-knees. Each helps your body and baby work together. Even with an epidural, you still have options like peanut balls or supported side positions.

Every birth is unique and finding what feels right for you can support progress, comfort, and confidence 💜

💬 Have you learned about or tried different positions during labor? What felt best for your body?

💾 Save this for your birth prep and share it with someone preparing for birth!

What to Ask During Your Hospital or Birth Center Tour.

When you’re exploring where you’ll give birth, here are a few important questions to ask:

🏥 Can I eat or drink during labor?
🧘🏾‍♀️ What pushing positions are supported?
🌿 What are the policies around keeping my placenta?

✨ These questions can help you understand your options and advocate for the birth experience you want.

💜 Client Testimonial 💜

Hearing words like these reminds me why I do what I do.

"Toria was able to be the knowledgeable sounding board I needed to advocate for myself through a 30-some hour process until I delivered my son. I’m extremely grateful for her hard work and presence—I highly recommend her to other mothers as well!"

When your client “forgets” to text that they’re at the hospital… and already got the epidural 😅

Just your friendly doula reminder: text your doula, we love to know what’s happening! 💌

Creating a birth environment that helps your body feel safe, calm, and supported.
Whether you’re birthing at home, a birth center, or a hospital. Your space matters.💜

Think:
🕯️ Soft lighting instead of harsh overheads
🎶 Music that soothes you
🌿 Calming scents (if allowed)
🪶 Comfort items that ground you
🤍 People who bring peace, not pressure

Your birth space sets the tone for how your mind and body respond in labor.
Because when you feel safe… you can open, release, and birth your baby with more ease.

💫 The more you know… the better you birth.
