Time For Christmas Once Again
A Tribute In Rhyme by Judy Ashford

It’s been busy at the North Pole.
Santa’s almost ready for the day.
The reindeer have been practicing
on how to pull the sleigh.

He’s made a few trips here to chat with kids
to see how good that they have been.
He’s made a list and checked it twice,
before the time arrives for them to begin.

He checked the forecast for the weather.
It’s calling for some rain,
so Rudolph will be needed
for them to get there all the same.

He’s looking forward to the cookies
left for him upon the plate.
The reindeer loves it when you leave carrots
and they can hardly wait!

So on the 24th as you prepare for bed,
dream of the presents you will see,
when it time for Christmas once again
and you see what’s underneath the tree!

You Can Almost Hear It Snore
A Tribute In Rhyme by Judy Ashford

We had heard that storms were likely.
Eyes were focused on the skies.
I had my camera ready
if a tornado caught my eyes.

But, all I saw was lovely clouds
and the first phase of the moon.
As the winds were quickly growing,
the pretty clouds were gone too soon.

So I focused on the moon
and zoomed in close so I could see
that in the first phase of the moon,
it was sleeping comfortably.

Look closely at the picture.
Let your imagination soar.
Its' eyes are closed, mouth slightly opened
and you can almost hear it snore.

Was cleaning my bedroom and saw this chipmunk outside my bedroom window. Sort of like "squirrel!" Guess I better get ba...

An Old Tudor Building, Sublime
A Tribute In Rhyme for The Wright Memorial Public Library
By Judy Ashford

In an old Tudor building,
as you enter, you’ll find
a selection of books
described by some as sublime.

Famous people in Oakwood
developed the city’s designed
and envisioned the library
as one of a kind.

Named for Katherine Wright and her two famous brothers,
it’s now listed as a historical place.
For those who do research, or just love to read,
Many call it home base.

The first patrons entered in 1939.
All would agree it was just about time.
for the idea was imagined in 1913,
and with the hard work of many, this beautiful treasure was seen.

This building and contents
are much loved by the town.
Now opened daily,
people are always around.

Many additions have been made through the years
to accommodate people and technology.
Computers have been added to keep up with the times.
Take the time to explore, so these things you can see.

We take time to be thankful for the beautiful place
and for those who envisioned it here.
Not used by just by the folks in the city,
but others who live far and near.

Dayton Children’s Hospital … Where Daily Miracles Occur
A Tribute In Rhyme by Judy Ashford

Barney Convalescent Hospital began in 1947.
In the 50’s the name changed to Children’s Hospital Society
During the 60’s known as Barney’s is the name I knew the most
Dayton Children’s is the final name that was meant to be.

North Dayton’s been a long time home
to this very special place.
Wandering down their hallways,
you’ll most times see a smiling face.

Children come and children go
always receiving gentle care.
Regardless of the length of stay,
there are caring people everywhere.

My uncle worked there many years
and watched the building grow.
He came in at 3 am to care for my daughter
because he loved me so.

At times a worried parent
may receive assurance everyday,
that their child is in the perfect place
to help their worries go away.

From preemies in the nursery
to a quickly growing teen,
many times their medical conditions
are not as bad as it may seem.

Unfortunately, there may be times
that children enter with great pain.
Great care is then administered
so their pain improves and is not the same.

Sit still and listen carefully,
for there may be an angel there,
bringing miracles from heaven
and also comfort they may share.

This is a place of daily miracles.
I’ve seen it happen there before.
You can feel this is the doctor’s goal,
each time you enter through their door.

Dayton’s Famous Funny Lady
A Tribute In Rhyme by Judy Ashford

We all enjoy a story
where laughter is a must;
when the author finds humor in everyday things
and sometimes makes a little fuss.

We have a lady from close by
that became known far and wide.
She had a talent of making fun of things,
but her readers sometimes also cried.

Operation Dustrag was the first column that she wrote,
after working in a Dayton paper after going to UD.
At Wit’s End was then written and syndicated
so a vast group of people nationwide her words now could see.

She then became famous writing books
that had a certain flair.
She appeared on several talk shows,
and if humor was needed, she soon would be there.

Erma Bombeck was her name.
She was born on the twenty first of February in 1927.
She remains in Woodland cemetery,
but I’m sure she really lives in heaven.

The Focus No Longer Was The Football
A Tribute In Rhyme for Damar Hamlin
By Judy Ashford

I’m not much of a football fan.
I barely watch a game.
Wasn’t watching when it happened,
but it touched me all the same.

The Bills were playing the Bengals.
Cincinnati was the place.
The stadium was crowded.
Painted colors on their face.

Shortly after starting
fans were startled when they saw
a player go down, staff running in,
the focus no longer was the football.

The roaring crowd was now silent.
Eyes were frozen on the sight
of CPR now starting
at a scene now filled with fright.

You could hear a pin drop
and then you could hear prayers.
Even the forecaster on TV
was saying them on there.

He was taken to an ICU.
His mom was by his side.
Prayers said were still continued.
Many people cried.

But the most amazing spectacle
was the love shown was the same.
Regardless of what side you rooted for,
they no longer cared about a game.

Strangers came together.
Held hands while saying a prayer.
They only prayed for the life of this man
and to show strangers that they cared.

He’s recovering in that ICU,
but the most miraculous of all,
was the love that people shared that night,
the focus no longer was the football.
